Prime Video is bringing a new Telugu musical drama that takes inspiration from the popular Hindi series Bandish Bandits. Titled Jagamae Sangeetham, the show features veteran actor Prakash Raj in the lead role and will explore the deep traditions of Carnatic music. The streaming platform has confirmed that the series will arrive on September 4, 2026.
The announcement came on August 20 with a poster reveal on social media. The show marks another addition to Prime Video’s growing lineup of regional originals and brings together a talented ensemble cast for a story centered on music, family legacy, and generational conflict.
The Story Behind Jagamae Sangeetham
Set in the temple town of Vaikuntapuram, Jagamae Sangeetham revolves around a family deeply rooted in Carnatic music. The story follows Balu, the grandson and heir of Shastri, a respected Carnatic music maestro played by Prakash Raj.
Balu inherits not just his grandfather’s musical legacy but also the weight of family expectations, broken relationships, and secrets that have stayed hidden for years. When old rivalries start to surface again, Balu finds himself at a crossroads. He must decide whether to protect the traditions his family built or find his own voice as an artist.
Music serves as more than just background in this series. It becomes the emotional language through which the family expresses love, anger, longing, pride, and other feelings they cannot say out loud. The show gradually expands its musical landscape as Balu discovers a world beyond traditional Carnatic boundaries.
Cast and Creative Team
Prakash Raj leads the cast as Shastri, the Carnatic music master whose legacy drives the story. The series features an ensemble cast that includes:
- Meka Srikanth
- Madhubala
- Akshay Lagusani
- Sushmita Shetty
The supporting cast includes Suman, Sijju Menon, Shafi, Jhansi, Raghu Babu Yerra, Rocket Raghava, Nagi Jabardasth, Mirchi Kiran, Keshav Deepak, Priyanka Nalkari, Manik Reddy, Prachi Thaker, and Roopa Lakshmi in important roles.
Palnati Surya Pratap serves as the creator and director of the series. The writing team includes Vangala Surya Manoj, Shravani Samudrala, and A.R. Prabhav. The music, which plays a central role in the narrative, has been composed by Vishal Chandrasekar. The series is produced by Sushmita Konidela.
Inspired by Bandish Bandits
Jagamae Sangeetham draws inspiration from Bandish Bandits, the Hindi musical series that also streamed on Prime Video. That show found a strong audience for its mix of classical music, modern sounds, romance, and family conflict.
However, Jagamae Sangeetham is not a direct remake. Instead, it takes the musical and emotional themes of Bandish Bandits and builds a fresh story rooted in Telugu culture and the Carnatic music tradition. The shift from Hindustani classical music in Bandish Bandits to Carnatic music in this series gives it a distinct identity while exploring similar questions about tradition versus modernity.
What the Makers Are Saying
Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of SVOD Originals at Prime Video India, spoke about the series:
“Jagamae Sangeetham is a deeply moving story that celebrates the emotional power of music while exploring universal themes of family, legacy, and self-discovery. At its heart, the series asks timeless questions about tradition, ambition, and the courage it takes to chart your own path.”
Producer Sushmita Konidela explained the vision behind the show:
“From the outset, our vision for Jagamae Sangeetham was to tell a story where music is not merely part of the world but becomes the emotional language through which a family expresses what it cannot always put into words: love, conflict, longing, pride, hope, and ultimately healing.”
She added that while the series is deeply rooted in Carnatic music, its themes of legacy, belonging, and finding your own voice are universal.
