The campground at Sullivan’s Crossing will feel a little emptier when the show returns next month. Scott Patterson, who plays the beloved campground owner Harry “Sully” Sullivan, will not appear in the upcoming fourth season. The news comes directly from showrunner Roma Roth, who confirmed the actor’s exit just weeks before the new season premieres.

But here is the important part for worried fansโ€”Sully is not gone forever. The character’s absence makes sense with how last season ended, and the door remains wide open for Patterson to return someday.

Why Scott Patterson Is Missing From Season 4

Season 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing ended with Sully making a big decision. He left the campground in Nova Scotia and traveled to Ireland with his girlfriend Helen. She went there to work on turning her novel into a television series, and Sully joined her for this new adventure. Before leaving, he promised his daughter Maggie, played by Morgan Kohan, that he would come back home .

But plans changed.

Showrunner Roma Roth explained the situation clearly in a recent statement. “Season 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing ended with Sully leaving for Ireland, beginning a new chapter in his life. Season 4 picks up the next day, with Sully still overseas,” Roth said . This means the new episodes start immediately after the finale, and Sully simply has not returned yet.

Roth made sure to clarify that this is not a permanent goodbye. “While he isn’t physically present in this season, the character remains an important part of the world with the potential to be included in future seasons should that align with the ongoing creative,” she confirmed .

So for now, Patterson’s exit is about the story moving in a different direction, not about closing the book on Sully forever.

Who Is Coming Back for Season 4

Even without Scott Patterson, the heart of the show remains intact. The two lead stars are very much returning.

Morgan Kohan is back as Maggie Sullivan. She expressed her excitement about the new season, saying, “I am beyond proud to be going back for Season 4 with such an amazing cast and crew. It’s been absolutely incredible to see the organic growth of our show throughout our first three seasons” .

Chad Michael Murray also returns as Cal Jones, Maggie’s love interest. Murray shared his feelings about coming back to work. “We’re so happy returning to our Sullivan’s family and these wonderful characters. There’s always an excitement in being back on set and I’m proud of how far the show has come,” he said .

Other familiar faces are also coming back. Tom Jackson and Andrea Menard will reprise their roles as Frank and Edna, the longtime residents of the Crossing who have become like family to everyone.

New Faces Joining the Campground

While saying goodbye to Sully is hard, Season 4 brings several new characters to shake things up. The show has added four new series regulars .

Marcus Rosner is back as Liam, and this time he is a series regular. Fans will remember him from the season 3 cliffhanger, where he showed up and claimed to be Maggie’s husband. His return will definitely cause problems for Maggie and Cal.

The new cast members include:

  • Fuad Ahmed as Amir Malik, a young Michelin-starred chef who leaves New York and shows up at the Crossing
  • Jonathan Silverman as Quincy Carlson, a stressed-out camper who struggles to relax
  • Colby Frost as Ben Nelson, a young man who takes a job at the local youth group
  • Emerson MacNeil as Tracy, Ben’s younger sister who finds comfort in her art

These new characters will interact with the regulars and bring fresh drama to the small Canadian town.

What Happens in Season 4

The new season picks up right where things left off. Maggie has finally started to figure out her life. She made a decision about her career and committed to building a real relationship with Cal. Everything seems to be falling into place.

Then Liam shows up.

The official synopsis for Season 4 teases big trouble ahead. “That is, until Maggie’s ex-husband, Liam, arrives with a shocking revelation which only upends Maggie’s life once again and causes Cal to question whether Maggie will ever truly be able to leave her past behind” .

This love triangle will likely take center stage. Maggie must deal with her complicated history with Liam while trying to hold onto the new life she built with Cal. It will not be easy.

Patterson’s Time on the Show

Scott Patterson joined Sullivan’s Crossing right after his iconic role as Luke Danes on Gilmore Girls. The show gave him a chance to play a different kind of characterโ€”a rugged, sometimes grumpy, but deeply caring father trying to reconnect with his daughter.

Before the show premiered in 2023, Patterson called it a “career-defining moment.” He explained why the role meant so much to him. “Roma Roth has created this platform where I’m able to express things in front of a camera that I have not been given the opportunity to do prior to this,” he told Brit + Co .

He also praised the collaborative atmosphere on set. “Everybody has a platform to voice their concerns or their opinions and state their ideas and they’re taken seriously,” Patterson shared with Us Weekly in 2023. “It makes everybody feel like they’ve got skin in the game” .

His departure marks the end of an era for the show, but his influence will still be felt. The characters will talk about Sully, and his presence will linger even if he is not on screen.

When and Where to Watch Season 4

Sullivan’s Crossing Season 4 premieres on April 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW . The show will air in the United States on the network. For viewers in Canada, the series airs on CTV and streams on Crave.

The show has also found a huge audience on Netflix. The first two seasons landed on the streaming platform in July 2025 and shot to the top of the charts. They became the third most-watched show in their first week, pulling in millions of viewers . This new audience helped secure the Season 4 renewal.

For international viewers, the show will likely become available on Netflix after the season finishes airing on The CW, following the same pattern as previous seasons.

The new season will have 10 episodes, giving fans plenty of time to visit the beautiful Nova Scotia setting and catch up with the characters they love.
