Selena Gomez is fighting back against a lawsuit that accuses her and her mother of defrauding investors in their mental health company Wondermind. The singer’s legal team has strongly denied all allegations, calling the case baseless and without any legal or factual support.
The legal trouble started when two investment companies filed a lawsuit against Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey, and former business partner Daniella Pierson on August 13, 2026. The investors claim they were misled about the company’s true situation and lost money as a result.
Gomez’s attorney Mathew S. Rosengart did not waste any time responding to the accusations. In a statement given to multiple news outlets, he made it clear that the singer plans to fight the case in court.
“The allegations that Selena Gomez engaged in any way whatsoever in any purported ‘fraud’ or other wrongdoing are completely meritless, both factually and legally. We will vigorously defend these false allegations and indeed are filing a motion to dismiss the baseless claims against her.”
What the Investors Are Claiming in the Lawsuit
The investors, operating through two companies called Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind LLC, say they put nearly $1.2 million into Wondermind back in 2022. They expected the money to help build the company’s products and grow the business.
According to the legal documents, the investors were told that Gomez would play a major role in running and promoting the company. They believed her fame and massive social media following would help Wondermind succeed. The lawsuit claims that Gomez was presented as a co-founder, chief impact officer, and head of marketing.
The investors also say they were promised that Wondermind had partnerships with big companies like JPMorgan and Fidelity and that an app was being developed. But the lawsuit states that none of these things actually happened.
“The partnerships did not exist. The initiatives never materialized. The app was never built. And for three years, while the Company quietly collapsed around them, not one of its founders, officers or directors said a word to the investors whose money was funding the collapse.”
The investors further allege that they only found out about the company’s problems after media reports came out in September 2025. One report from The Cut described Wondermind as being in a “state of utter disarray”. Another Forbes article from August 2025 also raised questions about the company’s operations.
Gomez’s Legal Team Takes Strong Action
Rosengart, who has represented Gomez in other legal matters before, made it clear that the singer is not taking these accusations lightly. The legal team has already started the process of filing a motion to dismiss the case.
The lawyer’s statement was firm and left no room for doubt about Gomez’s position. He emphasized that the allegations have no basis in fact or law. The team plans to defend the singer “vigorously” against what they call false claims.
This response came quickly after the lawsuit was filed. The legal team made sure to get their message out to the public through multiple major news outlets, including People, E! News, and The Hollywood Reporter.
Background on Wondermind and Its Founders
Wondermind was launched in November 2021 as a mental fitness platform. The company describes itself as offering accessible mental health content, podcasts, worksheets, and a newsletter. Gomez started the company with her mother Mandy Teefey and former business partner Daniella Pierson.
The idea behind Wondermind was to create a space where people could work on their mental fitness every day through candid conversations and practical tools. Gomez has been open about her own mental health struggles, making this a personal project for her.
Mandy Teefey, Gomez’s mother, has also faced previous allegations about her management of the company. Former employees had accused her of being unfit to serve as CEO. Teefey had previously denied those claims, calling them lies from disgruntled employees.
Daniella Pierson, the third co-founder, has also denied any wrongdoing. Her representative told USA Today that she “categorically denies the allegations against her and welcomes the opportunity to present concrete documentation and financial records that establish the facts”. Pierson’s team also stated that she never used investor money for personal expenses and actually invested her own money into the business.

With Gomez’s legal team filing a motion to dismiss, the case will now move forward in the federal court in Delaware where the lawsuit was originally filed. The investors are seeking a jury trial and want to either get their money back or receive damages.
