Seth Rogen has once again made it crystal clear that his fractured partnership with longtime collaborator James Franco is not healing. In a recent interview, the comedian and actor reiterated that he has no intention of working with Franco again, years after sexual misconduct allegations derailed Franco’s career and ended one of Hollywood’s most famous bromances.

Rogen, 44, was asked about his relationship with Franco, 48, during a recent interview, and his response was firm: “Nothing has changed.”

Why Rogen Won’t Reconcile With Franco

The distance between the two actors dates back to 2018, when multiple women accused Franco of inappropriate and exploitative sexual behavior. Franco denied the allegations but later reached a legal settlement with his accusers, paying $2.2 million.

Rogen has stated that his decision to distance himself was a personal one. In a 2021 interview, he explained, “What I can say is that I despise abuse and harassment. I would never cover or conceal the actions of someone doing it, or knowingly put someone in a situation where they were around someone like that.”

As Rogen told The New York Times recently, while there is a “public-facing side” to the split, the private reality is far more complex.

“I honestly think the nuance of it is too personal for me to get into right now. It is a very personal thing. Nothing has changed since the last time I talked about all this, and I haven’t worked with him in a really long time and I have no plans to.”

When pressed if the two still speak, Rogen simply said, “I haven’t talked to him in a long time, no.”

A Look Back at Their 20-Year Collaboration

Rogen and Franco first appeared together on the cult-classic TV show Freaks and Geeks (1999-2000). They later starred in several blockbuster comedies including Pineapple Express (2008) , This Is the End (2013) , and The Interview (2014). Their on-screen chemistry and off-screen friendship made them a defining comedic duo of the late 2000s and 2010s.

Franco’s Perspective: ‘I Guess It’s Over’

While Rogen has remained largely silent on the private details of the rift, Franco has spoken openly about feeling hurt. In 2024, Franco told Variety, “No. I haven’t talked to Seth. I love Seth. We had 20 great years together, but I guess it’s over. And not for lack of trying. I’ve told him how much he’s meant to me.”

Moving On

Rogen has continued to find success, starring in the Apple TV+ series The Studio and producing shows like The Boys. Meanwhile, Franco has slowly attempted a comeback in independent films, most recently starring in the Italian drama Hey Joe.

Despite Franco’s attempts at reconciliation, Rogen’s comments make it clear that the chapter on their friendship and professional partnership has permanently closed.
