Marvel Comics is launching a new Spider-Woman ongoing series on November 4, 2026, and it pairs Jessica Drew with one of the most dangerous villains in the publisher’s history. The Carnage symbiote, known for its love of bloodshed, is now bonded to Spider-Woman. She is not its host in the usual sense. She is its jailer, and the new series explores what happens when an Avenger tries to keep a monster on a leash.
How Spider-Woman Ended Up With Carnage
The story begins in The Amazing Spider-Man: Spider-Versity, where Jessica Drew and Norman Osborn trained a group of Spider-Heroes. During those events, Osborn briefly became the Red Goblin again. Jessica separated the Carnage symbiote from him and bonded with it herself. Her bio-electric powers, often called venom blasts, give her a way to control the symbiote in a way most hosts cannot.
That bond carried over into Spider-Woman 50th Anniversary Special #1, a prelude story written by Dan Watters with art by Andrea Broccardo and Mattia Iacono. The story, titled “The Mysterious Spider-Woman,” shows Jessica fighting a creature called Francis Nero, a research assistant of the Jackal who turned himself into a giant spider. Carnage sensed Jessica was in danger and bit off one of Nero’s eight legs. Spider-Woman then kicked the creature off a roof, killing it.
The special ends with Jessica back in her private investigator office, scolding Carnage and telling it that she is the one in control. Dan Watters described their relationship in simple terms: Jessica is the symbiote’s “jailer,” not its host. That dynamic is the foundation of the new series.
Carnage’s First Kill With Spider-Woman
The first kill shared by Spider-Woman and Carnage was Francis Nero. Nero had transformed himself into what Jessica calls “the Spectacular Spider-Failure,” a white-coated scientist who turned into a spider instead of a lizard. The symbiote acted on its own when it sensed Jessica was in danger, biting off one of Nero’s legs before Spider-Woman finished the fight.
That moment shows the tension at the heart of the new series. Carnage still wants to kill. Jessica still wants to control it. The question is whether her venom blasts are enough to keep the symbiote from taking over completely.
The New Spider-Woman Series
Spider-Woman #1 arrives on November 4, 2026, from writer Dan Watters and artist Andrea Broccardo. Watters is known for his work on Loki, and Broccardo has drawn Spider-Man Noir. The series takes Jessica back to her roots as a private investigator while keeping the Carnage bond at the center of the story.
The solicitation text for the first issue reads:
CARNAGE NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD! Spider-Woman’s 50th Anniversary celebration continues in this new series. Old foes back from the dead! Mysteries around every corner! And a bloodthirsty Carnage just barely kept contained! It’s a recipe for Spider-Woman’s darkest adventure yet.
Ben Urich has Spider-Woman on retainer as a Bugle investigator, handling what the solicitation calls “esoteric cases” that ordinary journalists cannot tackle. Preview pages for Spider-Woman #1 show her confronting Tombstone while searching for the Hangman. She beats one of Tombstone’s henchmen so badly that he begs to be taken to a hospital, which suggests the Carnage bond is already affecting how she handles violence.
What Carnage Brings to the Partnership
Carnage debuted in 1991’s Amazing Spider-Man #345, created by David Michelinie and Mark Bagley. The symbiote is the offspring of Venom, and it bonded with serial killer Cletus Kasady for most of its history. In recent years, Carnage has bonded with Eddie Brock, the former Venom host, in an uneasy truce where Eddie allows it to kill only the worst criminals and supervillains.
That truce is part of why Carnage is available to join Spider-Woman’s story. The symbiote still craves violence, but it now has a host who can direct that violence toward targets who deserve it. Jessica Drew is a different kind of host. She is an Avenger with a long history of fighting threats that ordinary heroes cannot handle. Her bio-electric powers give her a tool that Eddie Brock and Norman Osborn did not have.
Carnage also recently joined the New Avengers roster in New Avengers #3, written by Sam Humphries with art by Ton Lima. That team, led by Bucky Barnes, includes Black Widow, the Hulk, Namor, Clea Strange, and Laura Kinney’s Wolverine. Marvel calls them “Earth’s Deadliest Heroes.” Carnage’s role on that team is separate from the Spider-Woman series, but it shows that Marvel is using the symbiote in multiple stories at once.
