Actor Tanishaa Mukerji has stirred a fresh debate online after saying that women who get involved with married men cannot call themselves feminists. In a post shared on X on Monday, September 14, 2026, the Bigg Boss 7 runner-up described such women as “evil” and argued that their actions go against other women. Her comments quickly drew both support and sharp criticism, with a journalist challenging the way she framed blame between the woman and the married man involved.

Tanishaa Mukerji posted a detailed note on X, formerly Twitter, sharing her thoughts on affairs involving married men. She wrote:
“My thoughts – Women who have affairs with married men are not feminists. In fact, they are against women! Because being with someone’s husband is disrespecting the wife. The man is to blame too. He lacks character! And women who chase married men are just evil! They should not be role models to our children! #feminist #genz I said what I said! #boundaries”
The actor did not hold back. She made it clear that while the married man deserves blame for lacking character, the woman who pursues him carries a heavier share of the responsibility. Tanishaa also argued that such women should not be seen as role models for children.
Her post was shared on September 14, 2026, and by the next day, it had become a talking point across social media and news outlets. The hashtags she used, including #feminist and #genz, signalled that she intended the post to speak to a wider conversation about modern relationships and accountability.
The Debate Over Blame and Accountability
Tanishaa’s post did not go unchallenged. Journalist Richa Lakhera responded directly to her, questioning why the married man was described only as “lacking character” while the woman was called “evil.” Lakhera argued that the person who made marriage vows carries the primary responsibility for breaking them.
“So ‘lacking character’ is the worst you’ve got for him, but she’s ‘evil’ and unfit to be a role model. The girl made no vow. She broke no promise. The husband’s the one who stood at an altar, said the words, and then went and broke them. That’s not ‘lacking character’; that’s real betrayal. Full stop.”
Lakhera went further, saying that calling the other woman “evil” while letting the vow-breaker off with a softer judgment creates a script where men “get weak” and women become villains. She insisted that the one who owed loyalty and threw it away is the one who did the disrespecting.
Tanishaa’s position, however, was that both parties share blame. She wrote that the man “lacks character” but placed the stronger language on the woman, calling her “evil” and saying she should not be a role model. The difference in language became the centre of the online argument.
Who Is Tanishaa Mukerji
Tanishaa Mukerji is an Indian actress and a member of the well-known Mukherjee-Samarth family. She was born on March 3, 1978, in Mumbai. Her mother is veteran actress Tanuja, and her elder sister is Bollywood star Kajol.
She made her Bollywood debut in 2003 with the film Sssshhh, which also starred Karan Nath and Dino Morea. The film did not do well at the box office. She later appeared in Sarkar and its sequel Sarkar Raj, as well as Neal ‘n’ Nikki. Her Tamil film Unnale Unnale became a hit and earned her a Vijay Award nomination.
Tanishaa became a household name in 2013 when she participated in Bigg Boss 7 and finished as the first runner-up. Her relationship with fellow contestant Armaan Kohli became one of the most talked-about parts of the season. They were together for about a year before breaking up in October 2014.
She went on to appear in Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7 in 2016 and competed in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11. She also served as a judge on the comedy show Gangs of Haseepur. Her most recent film appearance was in the 2024 movie Luv You Shankar. She is set to appear in Veer Murarbaji: The Battle of Purandar.

The post drew a wide range of reactions. Some users agreed with Tanishaa’s stance. One person wrote, “Absolutely. Anyone who deliberately destroys someone’s marriage deserves to be called out irrespective of gender. My suggestion stay away from married people. With a population this huge, I’m pretty sure we all can find someone single”.
Others pointed out what they saw as inconsistency. One user brought up Tanishaa’s cousin, actor Rani Mukerji, writing, “Rani had affairs with Govinda and Aditya Chopra when they were married. Guess your cousin isn’t a role model either”. Another user mentioned the late actor Sridevi, asking what Tanishaa would call her by the same logic.
A different user challenged the framing by focusing on marriage vows. The user wrote, “From another perspective. Single women are not sworn to fidelity. Married men are. Start your complaint with married men who have affairs – they are disrespecting their own wives, their children and holy matrimony”.
Some comments also noted that the Indian film industry has many examples of similar situations involving both men and women, suggesting that singling out women was unfair.

This is not the first time Tanishaa Mukerji has shared strong views on feminism. In February 2025, she said in an interview that India is “the most feminist country in the world” and criticised Western feminism. She argued that respect for women is deeply rooted in Indian culture and Hinduism.
“Yes, we have issues, but it’s not because women don’t have respect in our culture. There is respect for women in Hinduism, it is ingrained in both men and women, but because of the British, our culture has deteriorated.”
Her comments at that time also received mixed reactions, with some agreeing with her pride in Indian culture and others pointing out the challenges women still face in the country. Her latest post on affairs and feminism continues that pattern of expressing unfiltered opinions on social issues, often through her X account.
