Fans of the hit superhero series The Boys just got a major update on the final season. Showrunner Eric Kripke shared a positive new production update, confirming the team is deep into the final stages of post-production and that the grand finale is on the horizon.
In a social media post from late October 2025, Kripke gave fans a clear picture of the progress. “Editing is all done, we’re roughly halfway finished with VFX, Music, Color,” he wrote. He expressed his satisfaction with how the final season is shaping up, assuring everyone that the series will “go out with a bang” and is “COMING (reasonably) SOON.”
This update confirms that the final season is firmly on track for its expected release window.
What is the Release Date for The Boys Season 5?
While an exact premiere date has not been announced, all signs point to the fifth and final season of The Boys arriving on Prime Video in 2026.
The recent post-production update strongly supports a release in the first half of 2026. This timeline aligns with the typical production schedule for the show and previous statements from the cast and crew. Star Karl Urban had previously indicated a similar wait, telling fans they would see them “in…2 years” for the final season after the Season 4 finale.
Historically, new seasons of The Boys have premiered between June and September, making a summer 2026 release a strong possibility.
The Final Season’s Story and Cast
Season 5 will be the final chapter of the main series, a plan that showrunner Eric Kripke has had from the beginning. He has described the upcoming season as the “show’s version of the apocalypse” and promised an epic, high-stakes conclusion.
The story picks up in a world where Homelander’s oppressive regime is in full effect over the U.S., with most of The Boys imprisoned. However, a resistance is forming. Additionally, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins, who previously worked with Kripke on Supernatural, will appear in the final season. Actor Daveed Diggs has also joined the cast in an undisclosed role.

Eric Kripke has been open about the bittersweet emotions of ending the series. When filming wrapped in July 2025, he shared an emotional post from the set for the last time.
“This is the last time I’ll ever be on this set. It’ll be torn down soon. It’s bittersweet, but my primary feeling is gratitude,” Kripke wrote. “We have the best cast, the best crew, the most fun story to write, and something that is impossible to predict: the right timing.”
Antony Starr, who plays Homelander, also shared his feelings about concluding the chapter, telling Kripke, “We created a monster, sir. And I will miss him, and you. Til we roll out the last season.”
Kripke has acknowledged the pressure to deliver a satisfying ending for fans, admitting that it’s “really hard to land the plane” on a series finale. He has teased that the final season will be explosive, with no guarantees on which characters will survive.
“Anyone who dies in season five will richly deserve it… you get to go out on your own terms, so not everyone’s making it through,” Kripke stated in an interview.
With post-production moving steadily forward, fans can expect more news and the first trailer for the final season in the months ahead.
