The summer 2026 anime season brings a new fantasy series that has caught attention with its mix of comedy and political scheming. The Insipid Prince’s Furtive Grab for The Throne follows a prince who everyone thinks is useless but is actually one of the strongest people in the land. The show has already aired its first two episodes, and fans are now waiting for episode 3.
The anime comes from the light novel series written by Tanba with illustrations by Yuunagi. It started on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in 2019 and later got a print version under Kadokawa’s Sneaker Bunko imprint. The story takes place in the Adrasia Empire on the Vogel continent, where a power struggle for the throne is happening among the emperor’s children.

What Happened in Episode 1 and Episode 2
The story centers on Arnold Lakes Adler, the seventh prince of the Adrasia Empire. To everyone in the empire, Arnold is a complete joke. He is seen as an inept and lazy prince who got none of the good qualities while his twin brother Leonard got everything. People mock him across the empire as an “insipid prince”.
But Arnold has a secret. He operates as Silver, one of only five magic-wielding SS-rank adventurers on the continent. While playing the part of a useless prince in public, Arnold works from the shadows to support Leonard’s claim to the throne.
Episode 1 set up the main conflict. After the crown prince dies in a bloody battle, a power struggle breaks out among the princes. Arnold decides he does not want to die, so he plans to make his younger twin brother Leonard the emperor. In his secret identity as Silver, Arnold works to gain support for Leonard. He helps a powerful duke by getting rid of a slime plague, putting the duke in Leonard’s debt. Everything goes smoothly until Silver accidentally reveals his identity as Arnold in front of Finne, the duke’s daughter.
Episode 2, titled “A Date in the City?” (Un rencard en ville ?), continues from that moment. After Finne discovers Arnold’s secret, he takes her on a tour of the capital. The episode explores the growing connection between Arnold and Finne now that she knows who he really is.
The show has received positive first impressions from viewers. One review noted that while there is nothing spectacular about the anime, it is “far from insipid”. The positive brotherly relationship between Arnold and Leonard stands out, and the political intrigue seems promising. The humor also works well, including funny moments where Arnold uses illusion magic to stage a meeting between himself and Silver, during which Silver insults Arnold.

Episode 3 will continue the story of Arnold’s secret maneuvering. With Finne now knowing his true identity, the relationship between them will likely develop further. Arnold still needs to keep his secret from the rest of the empire while continuing to support Leonard’s rise to power.
