When Did Season 5 Come Out and Where Can You Watch It

All five episodes of Season 5 were released at once on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 12 a.m. ET on Hulu in the United States. For viewers outside the U.S., the season is available on Disney+ internationally, and for bundle subscribers in the U.S., it streams on Hulu on Disney+. The full season dropped in one go, meaning viewers can binge-watch the entire thing without waiting week by week.

The season consists of five episodes, a notable change from the ten-episode runs of previous seasons. The episode titles are:

  • The Book of More Men
  • The Book of Dead Roses
  • The Book of Broadway
  • The Book of Friendship
  • The Book of Destruction

Why Season 5 Only Has Five Episodes

Season 5 was originally expected to be a full-length season. Hulu had ordered 20 additional episodes of the show in late 2025, with ten of those becoming Season 4. However, production on Season 5 was paused in March 2026 following a domestic dispute involving cast member Taylor Frankie Paul and her ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen.

Filming was halted for about two months. When the cast returned to finish confessional interviews in May 2026, Taylor was not present for those final sessions. The interruption meant Season 5 was ultimately shortened to just five episodes instead of the planned ten.

The Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen Situation

The central storyline of Season 5 is the fallout from the domestic dispute between Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen. The season addresses the situation directly from the very first episode. A message displayed before Episode 1 reads: “In May 2026, the Secret Lives cast returned to finish filming interviews following a 2 month production pause … without Taylor”.

The dispute became public in March 2026 when a video from a 2023 physical altercation between Taylor and Dakota surfaced. Taylor had been arrested that year and pleaded guilty in abeyance to aggravated assault, with the charge later reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor. ABC canceled Taylor’s season of The Bachelorette just days before it was set to premiere. Both Taylor and Dakota filed temporary restraining orders against each other, and Dakota was granted temporary custody of their son.

Authorities ultimately declined to press charges against Taylor. The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement: “After reviewing reports and evidence submitted to the Draper Police Department and West Jordan Police Department, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office has declined to file charges against Taylor Frankie Paul”.

Who Is in the Season 5 Cast

The Season 5 cast includes Taylor Frankie Paul, Jen Affleck, Jessi Draper, Layla Taylor, Mayci Neeley, Mikayla Matthews, Miranda Hope, and Whitney Leavitt. This is the same core group that has been with the show since its debut.

However, Whitney Leavitt confirmed that Season 5 will be her final season. She announced her exit in a May 5, 2026 Instagram video, telling fans: “Take it in”. Whitney also made her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago during this period, performing at the Ambassador Theatre from February 2 through March 15, 2026. Her Broadway run was later extended due to audience demand.

Demi Engemann, who had a limited role in Season 4, is not returning as a main cast member.

What Happens in Season 5

The season picks up with Taylor returning from The Bachelorette with what the official synopsis calls “unfinished business, an old temptation, and the pressure of life in the public eye”. Whitney is shown juggling her Broadway debut in New York City while tensions back in Utah continue to rise among the group.

The official synopsis describes the season this way: “Back in Utah, the limits of loyalty are tested as fame, secrets and backlash threaten #MomTok — with every blowup making headlines. As the heat threatens to burn the sisterhood, have they finally flown too close to the sun?”.

In the trailer, Mayci Neeley says, “There’s so much stuff the public doesn’t know”. The season covers the weeks leading up to the production pause, with the final moments showing the MomTok members addressing how their friend group was “in shambles”. The season ends with a “To Be Continued” message, leaving Taylor’s future involvement open.

What Else Is Coming for the Show

The shortened fifth season does not mean the end of the series. Layla Taylor confirmed in August 2026 that filming for Season 6 is already underway. “We’re not done with season five, and we’re filming for season six right now,” she said on Hulu’s Get Real podcast. The show received an order for 20 additional episodes, which will likely cover Seasons 6 and 7. A premiere date for Season 6 has not been announced yet.
