Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna have taken a firm step against the wave of online trolling and fabricated content targeting them. The actors’ team, known as Virosh, filed a formal complaint with the Hyderabad Cyber Crime authorities on Monday, October 26, 2026. The complaint comes days after their appearance on Koffee With Karan Season 9 sparked intense online criticism and a flood of misleading posts about their relationship.
The complaint was submitted in person by P Nishanth Kumar, who manages both actors. It asks authorities to investigate specific online posts, manipulated screenshots, impersonation, and targeted harassment. The team has also handed over relevant links and supporting evidence for examination.
What the Complaint Says
The Virosh team’s statement makes a clear point: criticism is fine, but lies are not. The complaint identifies social media publications and digital material that allegedly contain false narratives, fabricated content, doctored screenshots, and impersonation aimed at the couple.
“While we fully respect freedom of speech, individual opinions and the right to express criticism, there is a clear distinction between expressing an opinion and presenting fabricated, manipulated or materially misleading claims as facts”.
The team has also asked investigators to check whether the content could be part of a coordinated or paid campaign. Every instance of publishing, reposting, or sharing such material will be looked at separately, and legal action will follow where needed.
The complaint is not meant to silence genuine opinions. The team clarified that it is a request for accountability when demonstrably false information or unlawful conduct is involved. Social media users have been urged to be careful about sharing unverified claims.
Why the Backlash Started
The trouble began after Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna appeared together on the second episode of Koffee With Karan Season 9, hosted by Karan Johar. During the conversation, Rashmika recalled asking Vijay to marry her at an airport. Vijay told her to ask him 100 times, and she said she kept bringing it up for nearly a year.
Clips from the episode spread quickly online. Many social media users labelled Vijay a “red flag” over the revelation. The couple, who married in February 2026, also faced unfounded rumours about divorce and separation, even though they had been married for only about eight months at the time.
Rashmika and Vijay Respond to the Trolls
Before the complaint was filed, both actors posted strong responses on Instagram on Monday afternoon. Rashmika shared a long note calling the reaction an “angry mob” rather than a group of people with opinions.
“The current frenzy over our interview feels less like people having opinions and more like an angry mob looking for someone to vent at. Somewhere along the way, the whole point got lost”.
She explained that the marriage conversation was never about the number of times she asked. It was about taking time to know each other and being sure about their decision. She also made it clear that she is happy with her choice and questioned why being deeply in love with her husband had become a reason for criticism.
Vijay’s post was shorter and sharper. He called Rashmika his best friend, wife, and “one of the most beautiful parts of my life.” He stated that they are both “gloriously happy” and told critics they could “go f*** themselves” if they had a problem with it.
Police Response and What Happens Next
The Cyberabad police have confirmed receiving the complaint. A senior officer told The Times of India that no case has been registered yet. The complaint is being examined, and a decision on whether to register a case will be taken on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
In a statement, Cyberabad police said the petition was submitted to the additional DCP, Serilingampally Zone. The contents of the petition are non-cognisable in nature, which means police need to examine the material before deciding on further action.
The material identified for examination includes claims about events from the TV programme, alleged emotional distress or harassment, statements presenting a breakup or divorce as fact, and other claims spread through social media accounts and online platforms.
In a separate matter, the makers of the film Ranabaali, starring Vijay and Rashmika, also lodged a complaint with Gachibowli police a week ago. They alleged that unidentified persons posted objectionable and misleading comments about the film on social media.
