Sai Pallavi is trading her divine look as Sita in the upcoming Ramayana for a badge and a case file. The makers of Dhanush and Mammootty‘s OM: Chapter 1 – Udhiram: The Blood Wood revealed her character on Monday, October 26, 2026, and she is not playing a quiet role. She steps in as Nithya Reddy, a CBI officer who takes charge of an operation to break a red sandalwood smuggling network.
The character reveal video runs one minute and 43 seconds. It lays out exactly who Nithya is, why she cares about this case, and how she ends up crossing paths with the men played by Dhanush and Mammootty.
Who Is Nithya Reddy in OM Chapter 1
The first look describes Nithya Reddy as a mix of “honesty, smartness and experience in young blood.” She comes from Naidupet, a town in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh.
Her personal story gives the case its weight. Nithya’s father was an Indian Forest Service officer who was killed in action while protecting forests. That loss sits at the center of her drive to go after anyone harming forest resources.
Her police career moves step by step. Nithya began as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in the Andhra Pradesh cadre. She was later promoted to Additional Superintendent of Police in the CBI and assigned to work with Interpol. That path leads her to Operation OM, the investigation into illegal red sandalwood trading.
Operation OM Connects Three Characters
The red sandalwood case acts as the thread tying the main cast together. Nithya Reddy leads the investigation. Dhanush plays a woodcutter who gets pulled into the red sandalwood business. Mammootty‘s role is still mostly under wraps, but he holds a major part in the story.
The title OM belongs to Nithya’s operation itself. The “Chapter 1” label signals that the film is planned as the first part of a larger franchise, not a one-off story.
Sai Pallavi thanked director Rajkumar Periasamy for casting her in the role. She called the character her “alter ego” in a post on X: “Dear @Rajkumar_KP sir, Thank you so much for choosing me again and this time play to play Nithya Reddy! I see my alter ego in her”.
Cast, Director, and Production Team
Rajkumar Periasamy wrote and directed OM: Chapter 1 – Udhiram: The Blood Wood. He and Sai Pallavi previously worked together on Amaran (2024), the war drama that earned him a National Award for Best Director.
The cast includes Dhanush and Mammootty in the lead roles, with Sai Pallavi as Nithya Reddy. Sreeleela and Sanjay Swaroop also appear. Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah makes his Tamil cinema debut with this film.
Dhanush produces the film under his Wunderbar Films banner, alongside Shraddha Agrawal and Azmat Jagmag. RTake Studios backs the production. Sai Abhyankkar handles the music. Ezhil Arasu K is the cinematographer, R. Kalaivanan is the editor, and Yannick Ben and Kecha Khamphakdee choreograph the action sequences.

Release Date and Language Versions
OM: Chapter 1 is set to arrive in theatres on November 20, 2026. The film will release worldwide in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
The release was moved from its original October 16, 2026 date. Dhanush explained the change publicly, saying the team stepped back to avoid a clash with Rajinikanth‘s Jailer 2, which was scheduled for October 15, one day before the original OM date. The team also chose to stay away from the Diwali window because Suriya‘s film had already claimed that slot.
Dhanush framed the decision around respect for his peers. “Our superstar, Rajinikanth sir, the man whom we all have admired and worshipped over the years, has his film arriving on October 15, just a day before ours. Out of immense respect for him, we have decided to postpone the release of our film, OM, to a later date,” he wrote in his statement.
Sai Pallavi‘s Ramayana, where she plays Sita opposite Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, is set for a November 5, 2026 release. That puts both of her big films in the same month, just over two weeks apart.
