Episode 18 Recap: What Happened Last Week

Episode 18, titled “Fresh Leaves Need Great Nourishment / Sunlight Through the Leaves,” aired on August 1, 2026. The episode marked a turning point as the Misfit Class continued their journey following the Music Festival.

According to the official Japanese broadcast information, the episode carried significant narrative weight. The Crowns observed Iruma’s actions closely, and in a moment that defined the episode, Iruma won the day by eating more heartily than his rivals—which the Crowns considered a telling trait.

The episode ended on a positive note. Leviathan apologized for his earlier remarks about Iruma, and Razberry showed a warmer side by calling Iruma “-chan.” The group posed for photos together, signaling growing bonds between the characters.

The official NHK broadcast confirmed that episode 18 was a two-part story. Viewers in Japan can catch up through NHK ONE’s catch-up streaming service, which offers episodes for one week after broadcast.

Important Note: The official Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun X account has announced a schedule change. The rebroadcast of episode 18 scheduled for Friday, August 7, 2026, has been postponed to Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 4:35 PM JST. However, episode 19 is still scheduled to air on Saturday, August 8, 2026 as planned.

The Story So Far

Season 4 picks up after the events of the Music Festival arc. Suzuki Iruma, a human boy sold to a demon by his parents, continues to attend Babyls Demon School while hiding his true identity. His doting “grandpa” Sullivan serves as the school’s chairman.

The current season focuses on a new challenge: the Misfit Class must get all thirteen members to Rank 4 to keep their prized Royal One classroom. The season has already covered major storylines including the Music Festival, where the class performed the Hell Dance.

Iruma has grown significantly throughout the series. After the Music Festival victory, he achieved Rank 5, earning respect from demons both inside and outside the school. The season continues with major events including the Deviculum (Great Noble’s Meeting), the Kouma no Gi (Demon Summoning Ceremony), the Thirteen Dinner (13 Crowns Gathering), and now the Akudol Grand Martial Tournament.

Episode 19 is titled “Akudol Grand Martial Tournament” (アクドル大武闘会), suggesting the beginning of a new arc focused on this event.

Why You Should Watch Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun

The series has earned a rating of 8.2/10 based on viewer votes. Season 4 has been praised for its pacing, character development, and the way it balances comedy with emotional moments.

What makes Iruma-kun stand out is its consistent quality. The show delivers colorful animation, memorable characters, and a genuinely positive message about friendship and self-acceptance. The Misfit Class, despite their name, demonstrates what teamwork and loyalty look like in a world of demons.

For newcomers, the series offers an accessible entry point into shonen anime. The premise is simple: a kind-hearted human navigates life in a demon school. The execution, however, is what keeps viewers returning week after week. The show doesn’t try to be dark for the sake of it—it stays true to its comedic and uplifting roots.

With 24 episodes planned across two cours, season 4 continues through September 12, 2026. Episode 19 marks the beginning of a new arc, making it an excellent time to jump in if you haven’t started watching.
