The wait for The Night Agent Season 3 is almost over as Netflix prepares to release the next chapter of its hit spy thriller on February 19, 2026. But for many viewers who fell in love with the show during its record-breaking first season, there is one big question that remains unanswered: Where is Rose Larkin?
Luciane Buchanan played Rose, the tech-savvy cybersecurity expert who survived a deadly attack alongside Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) in Season 1. Their partnership and growing connection became the emotional anchor of the series. Season 2 brought them back together, but by the end, Rose made a choice that changed everything for Season 3.
Why Rose Larkin Is Not in The Night Agent Season 3
The simple answer is that Luciane Buchanan does not appear in The Night Agent Season 3. Her absence was confirmed by the actress herself back in September 2025 during an interview with Deadline. Buchanan explained that the writers made a creative decision to focus solely on Peter’s journey following the events of the Season 2 finale .
“As much as that show has been so amazing, especially for my career โ being a lead on a U.S. show from little New Zealand was such a whirlwind,” Buchanan told Deadline. “The writers decided that they wanted to follow Peter and his journey based on what happened at the end of season two. And so, we don’t get to see what happens to Rose, but I think it’s a really exciting time for the show, and who knows, it’s not a goodbye forever” .
The actress also shared that the creators had called her after Season 2 to explain their thinking. They had tried to find a way to include Rose in the new season but felt they could not do the character justice without making her feel like a side character. Buchanan respected that decision and agreed it was better not to force Rose into a story where she did not naturally fit .
How Season 2 Set Up Rose’s Exit
For viewers who might need a refresher, the Season 2 finale directly led to Rose stepping away. After everything she survivedโbeing hunted by killers, caught in conspiracies, and constantly looking over her shoulderโRose finally told Peter she had been through enough. She wanted a normal life, one where she was not a target simply for being close to him .
It was a mature and understandable decision for a character who had been through tremendous trauma. Rose essentially chose peace and safety over the constant danger that comes with being connected to a Night Action agent. The writers respected that choice by not bringing her back into the chaos for Season 3.
Fan Reactions to Rose’s Absence
When the first trailers for Season 3 dropped, fans immediately noticed Rose was missing. The reaction on social media and video comments was strong, with many expressing disappointment that the show’s emotional core would be absent .
“Peter and Rose’s trauma-bond is what makes this show so good,” one viewer commented on YouTube. Another wrote, “I feel like Rose and Peter’s bond and story were one of the main things setting this show different from other spy thrillers but now it seems like just any other spy themed shows with action but not really a story to tell” .
Some fans were even more direct about their concerns. “Without Rose it doesn’t feel the same,” said one commenter. “People saying they couldn’t do her justice in this season but she’s more useful than a reporter” . Another added, “What worked in Season 1 was Peter’s personal motivations and determination and the relationship with Rose. Without that, this is just like every other action series” .
However, there were also plenty of viewers excited for the new season regardless of the cast changes. The show remains one of Netflix’s biggest hits, with Season 1 pulling in 98.2 million views in its first 91 days and holding the top spot in 87 different countries .
What The Night Agent Season 3 Is About
Without Rose in the picture, Season 3 follows Peter as he takes on a dangerous new mission. According to Netflix’s official synopsis, Peter is sent to track down a young Treasury agent who killed his boss and fled to Istanbul with sensitive government intelligence .
What starts as a manhunt quickly turns into something much bigger. Peter uncovers a dark money network, faces paid assassins, and crosses paths with a journalist who is also chasing the truth. The conspiracy reaches all the way to the White House .
Series creator Shawn Ryan described the new season as “an adrenaline-fueled thrill ride across Istanbul, Mexico City, Washington, New York, and the Dominican Republic.” He added that Peter “grapples with a dangerous conspiracy at the heart of the White House, a dogged reporter with a hot tip and a murky past, a murder suspect trying to clear his name, a mysterious father and son who leave a trail of bodies in their wake and a new partner who could be his salvation โ or his doom” .
New and Returning Cast Members
While Rose is absent, many familiar faces are coming back for Season 3. Louis Herthum returns as Jacob Monroe, the intelligence broker who has been a thorn in Peter’s side. Amanda Warren is back as Catherine Weaver, Peter’s handler in Night Action. Fola Evans-Akingbola returns as Secret Service agent Chelsea Arrington, who now has a bigger role after being promoted to series regular .
Ward Horton and Albert Jones have also been upped to series regulars, playing President Richard Hagan and FBI Deputy Director Aiden Mosley respectively .
The new season also brings in some major talent. Stephen Moyer (True Blood) plays a contract killer known only as The Father. Genesis Rodriguez (The Umbrella Academy) joins as journalist Isabel De Leon. David Lyons (ER, Revolution) plays Adam, a new partner for Peter. Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi, Homeland) appears as Jay Batra, a financial analyst caught in the conspiracy. Young actor Callum Vinson (Chucky) plays The Son, whose curiosity threatens to unravel his father’s secret life .

Will Rose Ever Come Back?
Luciane Buchanan left the door open when she spoke about her exit. She said, “Who knows, it’s not a goodbye forever” . This suggests that if the story works out in future seasons, Rose could potentially return.
For now, though, The Night Agent Season 3 is moving forward without her. The show has been renewed through at least a fourth season, and the creative team seems focused on expanding the world and introducing new characters while keeping Peter at the center .
Early reviews for Season 3 have been positive. One critic from JoBlo noted that despite “the loss of Lucianne Buchanan as Rose Larkin, The Night Agent is better than ever with new co-star Genesis Rodriguez and the return of familiar characters from the first season as they take on the biggest conspiracy yet” .
