The latest episode of X-Men 97 Season 2 finally puts Wolverine in the spotlight. Episode 5, titled “Weapon X, Lies, and DVDs,” aired on July 15, 2026, exclusively on Disney+. This installment takes Logan back to the place that haunts him the most – the Weapon X facility. What starts as a simple mission quickly becomes a fight for survival against an alien infestation. The episode delivers major consequences, with two of Wolverine’s allies losing their lives and one villain’s fate left completely unknown.
Wolverine Reunites Team X for a Dangerous Mission
The episode picks up right after the post-credits scene from last week. Captain America and Black Widow handed Wolverine a file about a new Weapon X lab. Logan decides to shut it down and puts together his old crew from Team X. The team includes Lady Deathstrike, Garrison Kane, Maverick, and surprisingly, Sabretooth. Morph joins as the pilot and emotional support.
The group flies to a remote, snow-covered location in the Canadian wilderness. Right away, things go wrong. A flock of birds crashes into their helicopter. The birds bleed green blood, and the crash kills Garrison Kane on the spot. Despite losing a team member before even reaching the base, the rest continue with the mission.
The Brood Infestation Turns the Mission Into a Nightmare
When Wolverine and his team enter the Weapon X lab, they find something terrible. Almost every scientist is dead. The only survivor, Dr. Abraham Cornelius, has transformed into a green-blooded creature. He injected himself and others with alien DNA from a species called the Brood. The Brood are alien parasites that take over their hosts’ bodies.
The team fights off the creatures but quickly realizes they need to escape. They split up to find a way out. Morph, Lady Deathstrike, and Sabretooth go to restore power. While doing this, they find a DVD rack with records of Cornelius’s experiments. One disc is labeled “The Winter Soldier”. They also discover Omega Red, the Russian mutant, kept unconscious in the facility.
Wolverine Gets Infected and Betrays His Team
The situation gets much worse when Maverick sends a transmission. Wolverine has turned into a Brood. Maverick is killed by Logan right in front of the others. The team learns the truth about Wolverine’s real reason for coming to Weapon X. He did not come to shut down the lab. He came to get his adamantium claws back.
Lady Deathstrike, Sabretooth, and Morph now have to fight their former teammate. The Brood infection has taken over Logan’s mind. To save him, the survivors lure the infected Wolverine into the bonding chamber. They re-fuse the adamantium to his skeleton, which successfully removes the alien parasite.
Two Major Deaths and One Uncertain Fate
The episode does not hold back on consequences. Garrison Kane and Maverick both die during the Brood attack. These are two of Wolverine’s oldest allies from his Weapon X days. Their deaths raise the stakes and show how dangerous the Brood really are.
Omega Red’s fate remains a mystery. He helps the team fight the aliens, but the episode never shows him dying or escaping. He simply disappears in the chaos. Given his healing powers, he could still be alive. The show leaves this question open for now.
Wolverine Gets His Adamantium Back
One of the biggest moments in this episode is Wolverine getting his adamantium back. He steps into a tube and gets injected with the indestructible metal for the second time. This fixes the problem that started in Season 1 when Magneto ripped the adamantium from his bones.
Some critics feel this happened too quickly. The comics spent years on this storyline, but the show resolves it in less than half an hour. Still, Wolverine now has his iconic claws back, and fans get to see him in full form.
Morph Gets a Chance to Shine
This episode gives Morph a lot of screen time. The character has not received much attention in the new series. This installment digs deep into the bond between Morph and Wolverine. The episode questions whether Morph’s feelings for Logan are pure friendship or something more like unrequited love.
Morph also provides some lighter moments. During the fight, Morph transforms into The Thing from the Fantastic Four. There are also nods to classic comic book covers, including a recreation of Marc Silvestri’s Uncanny X-Men #234 cover.
What Viewers Are Saying About the Episode
The episode has received mixed reactions from critics and fans. Some enjoy the action and the team-up, while others feel the show moves too fast.
