Two new special posters for tvN’s period spy romance have revealed a sharp split in how its two central couples handle love. Kim You Jung and Park Jinyoung are shown holding each other in the rain, while Kim Hyun Joo and Lee Moo Saeng stand beside each other with far more restraint. The posters arrived ahead of Episode 9, which is set to air on November 7 at 9:10 p.m. KST.
The drama, which premiered on October 10, 2026, airs every Saturday and Sunday on tvN and streams on TVING in South Korea and Netflix globally. Its story is set in 1932 Gyeongseong, during the Japanese colonial period, and follows a pickpocket who goes undercover inside the colonial government.
What The New Posters Show
The poster featuring Kim You Jung’s Lee Ga Kyeong and Park Jinyoung’s Kim Tae Woong carries the tagline, “I could no longer hide it”. The image shows the two characters holding each other in the rain, marking the point where their long-suppressed feelings stop being hidden.
A second poster focuses on Kim Hyun Joo’s Yoo So Ran and Lee Moo Saeng’s Yoo Philip. Its mood is more restrained. A line from Yoo Philip reads, “Sometimes, pretending not to know how the other person feels is the best thing to do”. The poster shows a cautious embrace and exchanged glances rather than an open confession.
The difference between the two images is the point. Lee Ga Kyeong and Kim Tae Woong have moved toward each other after facing painful truths. Yoo So Ran and Yoo Philip already know how the other feels, but they keep turning away from those emotions.
Why The Four Characters Are In This Position
Lee Ga Kyeong is a Gyeongseong pickpocket who takes on a dangerous job as an undercover interpreter for the independence movement Gugukdan. Her mission is to stay inside the Japanese Government-General for 100 days and gather information. She poses under the name Keum Seo Hee.
Kim Tae Woong, also known as Sato Hideo, is the adopted son of Sato Shinichi, the Inspector-General of Korea. He works as an elite interpreter and is fluent in Korean, Japanese, and English. His loyalty to his adoptive father was shaken after he learned that Sato Shinichi was behind the Gyeamni massacre, in which 23 Koreans were killed.
Yoo So Ran is a sniper for Gugukdan whose fight is tied to personal loss. Sato Shinichi ordered her daughter shot years earlier, and she has returned to Korea under a new identity to seek revenge. She enters a marriage of convenience with Yoo Philip, a Korean-American journalist stationed in Gyeongseong. Philip uses his press credentials to pressure colonial officials while helping So Ran carry out her missions.
The Turning Point For Kim You Jung And Park Jinyoung
The shift between Lee Ga Kyeong and Kim Tae Woong follows a difficult stretch for both characters. Kim Tae Woong confronted Sato Shinichi after learning the truth about the massacre, but his adoptive father showed no remorse. When Lee Ga Kyeong overheard their conversation, Kim Tae Woong pushed her away with hurtful words in an attempt to hide his real feelings.
Lee Ga Kyeong did not leave. She comforted him with the words, “Please don’t cry”. That moment led into the rain embrace shown in the new poster.
The emotional turn also came with a ratings milestone. Episode 6, which aired on October 25, recorded an average of 9.5% nationwide and a peak of 10.4%, with a 9.9% average in the Seoul metropolitan area. The episode ranked first among all channels in its time slot, including terrestrial broadcasters.
The Mission That Complicates Everything
Yoo So Ran gave Lee Ga Kyeong a direct mission: win Sato Hideo’s heart but do not develop real feelings for him. The assignment placed Lee Ga Kyeong in an impossible position. She had to pretend to be unaffected in front of Sato Hideo while hiding her own emotions.
Yoo Philip also played a part in keeping Lee Ga Kyeong inside the operation. He persuaded her to return by asking her to understand So Ran’s goals, even if she did not share the cause. Earlier, Philip had pointed a gun at Lee Ga Kyeong, insisting that traitors must be eliminated. So Ran overruled him, saying it was a time to persuade her and bring her back, not to kill her.
The Quiet Distance Between Kim Hyun Joo And Lee Moo Saeng
Yoo So Ran and Yoo Philip operate as a married couple, but their relationship is built on convenience and secrecy. Philip’s feelings for So Ran are not pretend, while So Ran’s goal remains eliminating Sato Shinichi at all costs. Philip’s priority is keeping her safe.
Their new poster reflects that gap. The line from Philip about pretending not to know how the other person feels points to two people who understand each other without saying it directly. Their cautious embrace and exchanged glances suggest a change in their relationship, but it is not the same open embrace shown between Lee Ga Kyeong and Kim Tae Woong.
What The Production Team Said
The production team described what is coming in the second half of the drama. A new operation by the independence group is set against the backdrop of a commemorative banquet celebrating the opening of the Japanese Government-General’s new postal service. The team also said the drama will become more intense with a larger scale and heightened suspense, and asked viewers to look forward to the “precarious yet tender romances of the four characters”.
