The latest episode of Phantom Lawyer dropped on April 24, 2026, and it delivered emotional farewells along with one of the biggest family betrayals of the entire series. The show finally closed the heartbreaking case of the child ghost Yoon Si-ho, but the relief did not last long. Episode 13 ended with Shin Yi-rang discovering that his late father, a prosecutor he deeply respected, was actually a corrupt official who destroyed an innocent family.

Yi-rang Survives the Shooting and Returns from the Brink of Death

The previous episode ended with Yi-rang getting shot and falling into a coma. Episode 13 shows Yi-rangโ€™s soul leaving his body. He wanders around as a ghost with no memory of who he is. He starts walking toward a bright light, which would mean permanent death for his character.

But the child ghost Yoon Si-ho stops him. Si-ho cries out, โ€œYou promised to find my mom!โ€ This reminder brings Yi-rang back. His heart starts beating again at the hospital. His family and Han Na-hyun cry with relief as he wakes up.

After waking, Yi-rang focuses all his energy on solving Si-hoโ€™s case to keep his word to the young spirit.

The Shocking Truth Behind the Yellow Boots Kidnapping

The episode reveals the full backstory of the kidnapper, Detective Jo Chi-young. Two years before the events of the show, Chi-young went through a divorce. His 6-year-old son died in an accident shortly after. The detective felt overwhelming guilt over his sonโ€™s death.

He started kidnapping children because he wanted to feel like a โ€œgood fatherโ€ again. He called the kidnapped kids โ€œmy childโ€ and fed them pizza. All the victims wore yellow boots. Police later found a photo in Chi-youngโ€™s car showing his own son wearing yellow boots.

Yi-rang figures out that Chi-young buried Si-hoโ€™s body at a campsite that the detectiveโ€™s son always wanted to visit. Yi-rang visits Chi-young in prison. The detective refuses to talk at first. Then Si-ho takes control of Yi-rangโ€™s body. Speaking through Yi-rang, Si-ho tells Chi-young, โ€œIf I were your son, my heart would hurt too much.โ€

These words break Chi-young completely. He cries and finally tells the police exactly where to find Si-hoโ€™s remains.

A Bitter Goodbye and a Proposal for Yi-rang

Police recover Si-hoโ€™s body. Yi-rang and Na-hyun bring Si-hoโ€™s parents to the burial site. The area is filled with flowers left by people who heard the sad story of the missing boy. Si-hoโ€™s parents had spent years blaming each other for losing their child. But at the burial site, they hold hands again and cry together.

Si-hoโ€™s spirit appears one last time. He smiles brightly when he sees his parents make up. Before leaving for good, Si-ho tells Yi-rang, โ€œYouโ€™re a hundred, a thousand times cooler than Lightning Man.โ€

Later, the legal team goes out to eat at a meat restaurant. Na-hyun shows her feelings for Yi-rang by putting food on his plate. She then surprises him with a proposal. She says, โ€œLetโ€™s meet somewhere ghosts wonโ€™t know, so I can hear what youโ€™ve been trying to say.โ€ Romance finally seems to be moving forward for the two lawyers.

The Darkness of Yi-rangโ€™s Father Comes to Light

The happy dinner does not last long. Yoon Jae-wook, the father of Yoon Si-ho, suddenly fires Yi-rang as his lawyer. Jae-wook then reveals the real reason for his decision. He tells Yi-rang that Yi-rangโ€™s father, Shin Ki-jung, was a corrupt prosecutor.

Jae-wook explains his painful family history. His own father was a respected teacher at a local school. The teacher expelled a student who was bullying other children. That studentโ€™s father happened to be the head of a major law firm. To help the rich family avoid embarrassment, Prosecutor Shin Ki-jung made up false criminal charges against the teacher. The teacher could not handle the pressure and killed himself.

Yi-rang immediately bows his head to apologize for what his father did. But Jae-wook cannot forgive him. Yi-rang stands there in complete shock. He always looked up to his father as an honest and good man. Now he learns that the person he admired most destroyed an innocent family just to protect rich people.

Yi-rang Faces His Fatherโ€™s Ghost for the First Time

Yi-rang falls into deep confusion after learning the truth. He does not know what to believe anymore about his own family. In the final minutes of the episode, his fatherโ€™s ghost appears for the first time. Shin Ki-jung looks exactly as he did when he died at age 41. But the ghost has no memory of being dead. He also does not remember who Yi-rang is.

The ghost father seems to want help with something. But Yi-rang feels only anger and disappointment toward the man who raised him. He looks at his fatherโ€™s spirit and coldly says, โ€œI wonโ€™t take your case.โ€

The episode ends with Yi-rang rejecting his own fatherโ€™s ghost.
