American Horror Story: 13 delivered its penultimate two episodes on October 22, 2026, and they changed the show’s history forever. Episodes 11 and 12, titled “Madison’s Happy Ending” and “Sisters in Arms,” packed an unlikely romance, a family secret that ties three of Jessica Lange‘s most famous characters together, and a brutal ambush that left the Coven without its leader. The double bill set the stage for the October 29 season finale, and nothing about the witches’ fight against Satan went according to plan.
What Happened Previously
Episode 10 ended with Ben DeSoto (Joey Pollari) arriving at Miss Robichaux’s Academy in New Orleans after fully accepting his role as the son of Satan. The witches were ready for a fight. The Devil, known as Mr. Nas (Paul Anthony Kelly), had made a wager with God: if he lived among humans for 100 years without being killed, he would win control of Heaven, Hell, and Earth. Satan was at year 96 and was speeding up the clock by sacrificing groups of 13 women. The Coven became his target because Mallory (Billie Lourd) had killed his previous Antichrist in Apocalypse. Papa Legba warned the witches that they had to stop Ben before Satan officially made him the ruler of Earth.
Episode 11: Madison’s Happy Ending
Ben’s Peace Offering
Ben did not come to New Orleans to destroy the witches. He came to join them. After accepting his father’s deal, Ben gained the power to read Satan’s mind and learned that his miserable childhood, his morbid job, and the plane crash that killed his girlfriend were all engineered by the Devil. That knowledge turned him against his own father. Madison (Emma Roberts) greeted him with a knife, but Ben sent her flying across the room with his new telekinetic powers. Cordelia (Sarah Paulson) stayed suspicious, so Ben offered proof of his loyalty: he went to hell and brought back Myrtle Snow (Frances Conroy), who had been trapped in her personal hell working at a department store in Branson, Missouri.

Madison and Ben’s Unholy Romance
Madison took over the episode’s narration to explain her disastrous dating history. She tried a love spell, considered freezing her eggs, and learned that her magical powers had affected her fertility. Ben changed everything. He took her on magical dinner dates in Italy, and the two quickly fell for each other. Ben even admitted to killing Ashley after discovering she had been plotting behind his back. Madison was not bothered. As she put it, her prince finally arrived, and he just happened to be the Prince of Darkness. Ben told Madison she was a temptation sent by God to test him, but he was choosing her over his father.
Queenie Returns from Hell
Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett) told the Coven that defeating Satan required a specific potion and a strand of Mr. Nas’s hair. Ben went back into hell and brought Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) out without asking Papa Legba for permission. Queenie reunited with Marie, and the witches began preparing their plan.
Episode 12: Sisters in Arms
The Twin Twist: Fiona, Constance, and Sister Jude
Myrtle brought a massive secret back from hell. Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange) has an identical twin sister: Constance Langdon (also Jessica Lange). Their mother is Sister Jude Martin (Lange again) from Asylum. A criminal sold one of Sister Jude’s babies to a couple in Virginia, while the other was sent to Miss Robichaux’s Academy. Myrtle reunited the two sisters face-to-face for the first time. Constance was upset that she inherited no magic, but Fiona theorized that they were brought together so she could awaken Constance’s dormant powers to fight their father, the Devil.
Marie Laveau’s Plan to Trap Satan
Marie explained the Coven’s plan: Cordelia and Queenie would go to Mr. Nas’s penthouse while he slept, put one of his hairs into a potion, and force him to drink it. Cordelia would then drain his life force, turning him into a baby. Queenie would use a red thread to stitch a crossroads sign and send the Devil’s stolen years down to hell, keeping him trapped as an infant forever.
The Deadly Ambush
Ben let Cordelia and Queenie into the Apollyon apartment. Cordelia plucked a hair from Mr. Nas’s scalp and put it into the vial. Just as she was about to pour the potion into his mouth, the Rubber Man came up behind Queenie and choked her until she died. Mr. Phibes (John Waters) attacked Cordelia from behind, stabbing her multiple times in the back. Ben’s father knocked him out. The episode ended with the Coven without its current Supreme and an unfinished spell. Ben’s fate was left hanging.
Character Story Progression
Ben DeSoto moved from confused hospice nurse to the son of Satan, then turned against his father to protect humanity. His romance with Madison became his anchor, and his decision to free Myrtle and Queenie proved his loyalty to the Coven.
Madison Montgomery found love after years of bad dates and fertility struggles. Her question about whether Satan could read Ben’s mind proved important when the ambush happened.
Cordelia Goode learned that the Devil’s blood runs through her veins. She led the Coven’s final plan and paid for it with her life.
Queenie returned from hell only to die again during the ambush.
Myrtle Snow escaped her personal hell and delivered the twin twist that connected Murder House, Asylum, and Coven.
