A new dark action comedy hit theaters on April 24, 2026, bringing together a mix of comedy stars and drama veterans. Over Your Dead Body tells the story of a married couple who go to a remote cabin to fix their relationship, but both secretly plan to kill each other. Things get messy when escaped prisoners show up.
The movie comes from director Jorma Taccone, a member of The Lonely Island comedy group. It is a remake of the 2021 Norwegian film The Trip. 87North, the production company behind films like John Wick and Nobody, helped bring this bloody comedy to life.
Jason Segel and Samara Weaving Lead the Cast as a Deadly Couple
Jason Segel plays Dan, a washed-up commercial director who has not made a real movie in nearly ten years. He drags his wife Lisa to a snowy cabin hoping to fix their marriage, but his real goal is to kill her for an insurance payout. Segel is best known for his work in comedies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Knocked Up, and the TV show How I Met Your Mother. He currently stars in the Apple TV+ series Shrinking.
Samara Weaving takes on the role of Lisa Burton, a struggling actress waiting for her big break. She also plans to murder her husband for life insurance money. When escaped prisoners interrupt their weekend, Lisa drops her normal personality and turns tough, using everyday objects as weapons. Weaving has earned the nickname “Scream Queen” for her roles in Ready or Not, The Babysitter, and Scream VI. She also appeared in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come earlier in 2026.
The two actors spent much of the movie trying to outsmart and outfight each other. The trailer shows them using household items and their surroundings to attack one another in increasingly crazy ways.
Timothy Olyphant and Juliette Lewis Join as Escaped Convicts
Timothy Olyphant plays Pete, an escaped prisoner who has been hiding in the same cabin before Dan and Lisa arrive. His character completely messes up the couple’s murder plans. Olyphant is known for his lead role in the TV series Justified and for movies like Hitman, Live Free or Die Hard, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Juliette Lewis appears as Allegra, a quirky prison security worker who falls for Pete and helps him break out. Her character adds more chaos to an already wild situation. Lewis earned an Academy Award nomination for her role in Cape Fear (1991) and two Primetime Emmy nominations for Hysterical Blindness (2002) and Welcome to Chippendales (2022). Her other films include What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Natural Born Killers, and From Dusk Till Dawn.

Jake Curran appears as Henry, a man Dan hires to help with his murder plan.

The movie premiered at the SXSW Film Festival on March 14, 2026, before hitting theaters across the United States on April 24, 2026.
For viewers outside North America, Over Your Dead Body will release directly on Amazon Prime Video in the United Kingdom starting June 10, 2026. The film is also coming to Prime Video in other international markets on the same date.
The movie runs for 1 hour and 45 minutes and carries an R rating for strong violence, language, and bloody content.
