Fresh rumors are making rounds across the Marvel fandom. Adam Driver, known for his role as Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, is now being linked to the villain role of Mr. Sinister in the upcoming X-Men reboot from Marvel Studios.
This casting news comes as a correction from earlier reports. The rumor mill had previously connected Driver to the iconic role of Magneto. However, insider sources now claim that the actor will instead portray Nathaniel Essex, better known as Mr. Sinister.
The Rumor That Started It All
The casting speculation began when scooper MyTimeToShineH first reported that Adam Driver had been cast as the main villain in Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot. At that time, the character’s identity was not clearly stated. Soon after, another insider suggested the role was likely Magneto, which led many fans to believe that Marvel had found its next Master of Magnetism.
But the story took a turn. Apocalyptic Horseman, a figure known for breaking Marvel and DC news, went to social media to admit a mistake. The scooper had previously claimed Driver would play Magneto but later corrected himself.

The insider also shared that Bill Skarsgård is among the actors being considered for Professor Xavier, and Cooper Hoffman is in the mix for Cyclops. Marvel Studios is reportedly looking to build a younger cast for the reboot.
Who Is Mr. Sinister?
For those not familiar with the comics, Mr. Sinister is one of the X-Men’s most dangerous enemies. His real name is Nathaniel Essex, a brilliant Victorian-era scientist who became obsessed with genetics and human evolution.
Essex was later transformed by the mutant Apocalypse, which gave him extraordinary abilities and an extended lifespan. He possesses enhanced strength, telepathy, telekinesis, regenerative abilities, and shape-shifting powers. What makes him truly threatening is his scientific mind and ability to manipulate genetics on a massive scale.
Mr. Sinister often works from the shadows, quietly influencing events rather than charging into battle. He has a deep connection to the Summers family, including Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Cable, making him a key figure in some of the X-Men’s most important storylines.
Why Adam Driver Fits the Role
Many fans argue that Driver’s look and ability to play complex characters make him a good match for Mr. Sinister. His work as Kylo Ren in Star Wars showed he can handle brooding villain roles with depth. Supporters also point to his physical build as fitting the character.
Driver has built an impressive career over the past decade. After his breakout role in HBO’s Girls, he became a household name as Kylo Ren. He has earned two Academy Award nominations for BlacKkKlansman and Marriage Story. His other notable films include House of Gucci, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Last Duel, and Ferrari.
A Character Never Seen on the Big Screen
Mr. Sinister has never appeared in a live-action movie. Fox’s previous X-Men films hinted at his existence through references to Essex Corp, but the character never received a full debut. If the current rumor proves accurate, this would mark the first time audiences see Mr. Sinister on the big screen.
The character made his full comic debut in Uncanny X-Men #221 in 1987. He was created by writer Chris Claremont and artist Marc Silvestri.
Other Casting Rumors
The rumor mill is active with other casting possibilities for the X-Men reboot. Bill Skarsgård is reportedly being considered for Professor Xavier. Other names mentioned for the role include Tom Pelphrey and Drew Starkey.
For Cyclops, Cooper Hoffman is among the candidates. Charles Melton is rumored to play Beast. Sadie Sink is reportedly set to play Jean Grey. For Emma Frost, Marvel is looking at Margot Robbie as the top choice, with Michelle Randolph also being considered.
Cailee Spaeny is the leading choice to play Rogue. Monica Barbaro is being considered for another role, possibly Blindfold.

Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed any casting for the X-Men reboot. Fans should treat these reports with caution until an official announcement comes from the studio.
There is speculation that casting announcements could happen at San Diego Comic-Con. However, some insiders suggest the reveal might not happen until D23 later this year.
The X-Men reboot is being directed by Jake Schreier, with a script from Michael Lesslie, Lee Sung Jin, and Joanna Calo. The movie is expected to release in May 2028.
