Mark Ruffalo has given Marvel fans a major hint about what lies ahead for Hulk and Spider-Man in the MCU. In a new behind-the-scenes featurette from the digital release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the actor called their long-awaited meeting a “teaser” for bigger things to come.
Ruffalo’s comments arrive as the film continues its record-breaking run and fans wonder where the Jade Giant will appear next. The actor also addressed his potential involvement in upcoming Avengers movies during a separate interview.
Mark Ruffalo Calls Hulk and Spider-Man Meeting “Iconic and Legendary”
The featurette, titled “Friends and Foes,” is included in the digital release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which arrived on October 6, 2026. In the clip, Mark Ruffalo spoke about sharing the screen with Tom Holland for the first time in a significant way.
“The idea of Hulk and Spider-Man finally meeting up… It’s iconic and legendary in the comics, and I think the way we do it is really a teaser for what’s to come with these two characters.”
The film marked the first major interaction between the two heroes in the MCU. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the highest-grossing film of 2026, bringing back several familiar faces from the wider franchise.
A Comic Book History That Goes Back Decades
Spider-Man and Hulk share a long history in Marvel comics. Their first encounter dates back to the early days of Marvel publishing. The two heroes have clashed and teamed up multiple times over the years.
One famous storyline saw Hulk remember Peter Parker as Spider-Man even after his secret identity was erased from the world’s memory. Fans had hoped this element would appear in Brand New Day, and it could still be adapted in a future project.
Both characters have also served as members of the Fantastic Four in different comic runs, alongside heroes like Wolverine and Ghost Rider. These connections give Marvel plenty of material to explore in future films.
What Mark Ruffalo Has Said About Avengers: Doomsday
Mark Ruffalo previously stated in January 2026 that Hulk would not appear in Avengers: Doomsday. At the time, he told Empire Magazine that the character would sit out the next big crossover event.
Reports from September 2026 suggested a change in direction. According to circulating reports, Ruffalo is now set to return as Bruce Banner in Avengers: Doomsday, reversing his earlier comments.
Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Avengers: Doomsday, have also shared their thoughts. The filmmaking duo indicated that Hulk will be “certainly involved” in the story centered on Doctor Doom. They did not confirm a specific appearance in Doomsday but left the door open for a return in Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for 2028.
Hulk’s Status After Brand New Day
The events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day left Bruce Banner in a difficult place. The film showed him transforming into the Savage Hulk for the first time in the MCU, a more dangerous and uncontrollable version of the character.
A post-credits scene from Avengers: Endgame Encore followed directly from Brand New Day. The scene showed Banner imprisoned, setting up a darker path for the character. This storyline could connect to a possible World War Hulk adaptation.
