A 12-year-old boy named Oniyasha lives with a traveling theater troupe called the Kanze座. He is the son of Kan’ami, the leader of the troupe. Oniyasha does not understand why people dance. He asks questions like: “Why must I step with the left foot here instead of the right? Why is one performance good and another bad?”
One day, he sees a Shirabyoshi (a female dancer) performing in a run-down shack. Her dance touches his heart. He becomes fascinated and wants to see her dance again.
Episode 2: The Shirabyoshi’s Dance
Oniyasha finds the Shirabyoshi and asks to watch her perform again. He starts to understand that dance can express deep emotions. The Shirabyoshi’s dance is not just movement—it tells a story.
Episode 3: Meeting Kogane
Oniyasha meets a girl named Kogane. She is poor and struggles to survive. Oniyasha begins to doubt his own dancing abilities when he sees how hard life is for Kogane. He questions whether dance really matters when people are suffering.
Episode 4: The Troupe’s Challenges
The Kanze troupe faces difficulties. Oniyasha watches in horror as Kogane and Toku are beaten by Ashikaga soldiers. Toku urges Oniyasha to cut ties with them and focus on dancing to protect himself.

Oniyasha trains hard for the rematch. He learns from his mistakes and grows as a performer. The other members of the troupe watch his progress with interest.
Episode 8: New Alliances
Oniyasha and Zojiro decide to work together and create a performance. They choose an unfinished play called “Shiokumi” by Dengaku Shinza. But not everyone is happy about this partnership. Members of the Dengaku Shinza group are unhappy and do not support the collaboration.
Meanwhile, a girl named Chiharu starts learning to read and write because of Oniyasha’s influence. But she feels empty because she is not making progress fast enough.
Episode 9: Hidden Feelings
The ninth episode is titled “Hidden Feelings”. Oniyasha and Zojiro continue working on their play. But tension builds within the Dengaku Shinza group.
Oniyasha stops coming to practice. Zojiro becomes frustrated. Oniyasha spends his time studying old Japanese poems (waka) at his desk.
Chiharu tries to understand Oniyasha’s dance by reading his books. Ishiya also gets involved in the preparations.
