Stella Lefty, the 24-year-old singer who shot to fame with her viral TikTok hit “Thinking ‘Bout You,” is now facing serious heat online. Listeners have accused her of copying multiple songs from well-known country artists on her debut album Long Way Home. The backlash has gotten so loud that social media users have given her a new nickname: “Stella Thefty.”
The controversy centers around her track “Why Wouldn’t We,” which many say sounds very similar to Blake Shelton‘s 2017 hit “I’ll Name the Dogs.” But that is not the only song raising eyebrows. Her breakout single “Boston,” which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has over 186 million streams on Spotify, has been compared to Noah Kahan‘s “Stick Season.” Another album track, “Summer You Were Mine,” also drew comparisons to The Chicks‘ 1998 Grammy-winning song “There’s Your Trouble.”

The Blake Shelton Comparison That Started the “Stella Thefty” Name
The latest accusation comes from Lefty’s song “Why Wouldn’t We,” which she released as a single earlier this year and included on her debut album that dropped on August 21, 2026. Listeners quickly pointed out that the track bears a strong resemblance to Blake Shelton‘s “I’ll Name the Dogs” in both melody and lyrics.
Both songs talk about couples dividing responsibilities in a relationship. Shelton sings about hanging pictures, fishing, naming babies, and naming the dogs. Lefty sings about splitting cooking, cleaning, driving, and choosing movies. The chorus melodies also sound very similar to many ears.
The writers of Shelton‘s hit—Matt Dragstrem, Ben Hayslip, and Josh Thompson—are not credited on Lefty’s song. Instead, the credits list Lefty, Emily Weisband, Grady Block, and Steph Jones. Neither Shelton nor his songwriters have publicly accused Lefty of copying their work or asked for credit. But that has not stopped fans from voicing their opinions online.

Kahan eventually received a songwriting credit for “Boston” after his team reached out to Lefty’s team. When asked about the similarities, Lefty told Vanity Fair:

Another track from Long Way Home, “Summer You Were Mine,” also caused problems. The song interpolates The Chicks‘ 1998 hit “There’s Your Trouble”. Interpolation means borrowing lyrics or melodies to create a new song, and it requires permission from the original writers.
Lefty’s team did get permission, but the original writers—Tia Sillers and Mark Selby—were accidentally left off the streaming credits. Atlantic Records, Lefty’s label, blamed this on a “streaming platform error” and has since added their names.
