The latest episode of Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent Season 2 has created a new viral sensation. Actor and stand-up comedian Surabhi Vanzara, known for her role in the 2004 film Murder alongside Emraan Hashmi, appeared as a contestant and delivered sharp comebacks that left the host and panel members stunned. Her witty exchanges with Samay Raina, including the now-famous line “You disturbed the entire country,” have taken social media by storm.
Who is Surabhi Vanzara?
Surabhi Vanzara is not a newcomer to the entertainment world. She has been working in the industry for several years, appearing in television shows, Bollywood films, and digital content. She began her career with episodic roles in popular TV series like C.I.D., Aahat, Ssshhhh…Koi Hai, and Hello Inspector.
Her big break came in 2003 with the television show Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, where she played the character Maria. The show, starring Mona Singh, Apurva Agnihotri, and Rakshanda Khan, became a hit and gave Surabhi recognition among television audiences.
In 2004, she made her Bollywood debut with Anurag Basu’s thriller Murder, starring Emraan Hashmi, Mallika Sherawat, and Ashmit Patel. She played the role of Radhika, a character connected to Emraan Hashmi’s Sunny. The film became a major commercial success and helped establish Emraan Hashmi as a leading actor.
She later appeared in another Emraan Hashmi film, Tumsa Nahin Dekha: A Love Story, where she played Reshma, a friend of Dia Mirza’s character. Her other film credits include Raaz: The Mystery Continues and Hate Story 2.
From Shabnam Syed to Surabhi Vanzara
Many people may not know that Surabhi Vanzara was earlier known as Shabnam Syed. She changed her name after marrying Saurabh M Vanzara, a Gujarati businessman, on August 22, 2011.
Speaking about her name change, she told TellyChakkar:
“Keeping in mind the tradition of changing the daughter-in-law’s name in her in-laws’ house, I decided to change my name to Surabhi Vanzara. Long before we met, my husband’s parents used to joke that they would find a girl named Surabhi for Saurabh.”
After marriage, she converted to Hinduism and adopted the name Surabhi Vanzara. On India’s Got Latent 2, she mentioned that she is married to a rich Gujarati man.
Television Career and Other Notable Work
Surabhi has a long list of television credits. She gained recognition for playing Shireen Rashid Ahmed Khan in the popular show Qubool Hai. Her other TV appearances include Millee, Hitler Didi, and F.I.R..
According to reports, two short films she worked on, Nothingness and Smoked up Honesties, were screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
After spending nearly two decades in films and television, she has now turned to stand-up comedy. Her Instagram account has more than 80,000 followers, where she describes herself as ‘Rebel Bahu: Housewife; Standup comedian’. She regularly shares comedy reels and clips from her performances, with married life and everyday experiences becoming the subject of her humour.
The Viral Episode of India’s Got Latent 2
The episode that brought Surabhi back into the spotlight featured an interesting panel. Rakhi Sawant, Ashneer Grover, Kushagra Srivastava, and Balraj Ghai joined Samay Raina as panel members.
Things took an entertaining turn when the panel expressed they did not like Surabhi’s stand-up performance. Kushagra commented that she gave a ‘Komolika’ vibe and looked like she would fly away on a broom. Surabhi quickly responded:
“What’s your name, sir? Everybody else I do know.”
The Roast That Broke the Internet
The most talked-about moment came when Samay Raina joked about Surabhi being “mentally disturbed” because her maid had not turned up. He asked if she was in her normal state.
Surabhi did not hold back. She replied:
“No, no, this is all thanks to you. Meeting you is not easy, Samay. It’s quite mentally disturbing.”
She then delivered another sharp line that has since gone viral:
“You disturbed the entire country.”
When Samay asked if she was nervous or under pressure because of him, Surabhi had another comeback ready:
“Don’t give yourself so much credit. I said mentally disturbed, not nervous.”
Rakhi Sawant soon stepped in and pointed out that Samay’s jokes were not really working on Surabhi. Surabhi also expressed her appreciation for Rakhi, saying:
“You don’t even know how many women you are inspiring today by talking all the rubbish that you do.”
