Aaryamann Sethi posted a video on his YouTube channel, Aary Vlogs, to clear the air. He was joined by his mother Archana and his father Parmeet Sethi in the video. The family made it clear that they did not take the joke personally.

What Samay Raina Said on the Show

The controversy started when Archana Puran Singh appeared as a panellist on India’s Got Latent. While introducing her, Samay Raina said he was a fan of her work in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Then he took a dig at her family vlogs.

Samay said, “I have seen your vlogs; neither does your husband work, nor do your two ‘nalle sons’.” He was referring to Archana’s husband Parmeet Sethi and their two sons, Aaryamann and Ayushmaan.

Archana’s sons were sitting in the front row during the show. Archana reacted quickly and told them, “I told you guys don’t sit in the front row; this is not how you get fame, this is how you get insulted.”

The exchange went viral on social media. Many viewers felt Samay had crossed a line.

Aaryamann Sethi’s Response

Aaryamann Sethi started his vlog by thanking people who supported him. Then he explained why he did not take the joke seriously.

“I usually don’t say something about all this but I thought we should say something this time just because I feel it’s funny. The joke was also funny because, to be fair, when we vlog, we are at home only, so that’s not wrong and my mother also does laugh for a living.”

He said that people watching comedy have become too sensitive.

“First of all, let’s just point this out: it was a joke. And it’s okay. He did not mean to hurt me or anyone in my family.”

Aaryamann also shared that he and Samay have a good relationship outside the show. They have played paddle together. They have visited each other’s homes. They check on each other regularly.

“Our relationship is fine and obviously, he is not trying to insult or hurt us. I understand when people say that a line was crossed but honestly, when the person who is the subject and the one who is making the joke… they don’t have a problem, then I don’t think it’s so important for everyone else to get upset.”

Archana Puran Singh’s Take

Archana Puran Singh also spoke in the vlog. She said she knew what kind of show India’s Got Latent is before she agreed to appear.

“I didn’t personally get offended by anything.”

She asked viewers not to feel bad for her family.

“Whoever is out there feeling bad for us, please don’t. I went there knowing what kind of show India’s Got Latent is. Not to be taken seriously, just meant to be fun and laughter, and I am very used to this kind of humour and I didn’t feel bad at all.”

She added that Samay’s intent was only to create a moment of laughter for everyone.

“People keep saying your family was insulted, but it would be an insult if he meant it. He just wanted to create that one moment of laughter for everybody. For me, that was the intent of that punch. I have no regrets about Latent.”

Archana also revealed that Aaryamann and Samay speak regularly, almost twice a day.

The joke sparked a big debate online. Many social media users felt Samay’s comments were disrespectful. Some said he had crossed the line as a comedian.

However, Aaryamann pointed out that many people also agreed with Samay’s joke. He said, “A lot of people have publicly supported us, and I want to say that I love you and thank you so much for standing up for us. It is really sweet. At the same time, many people said, ‘Yes, this is exactly how they are. He is right.’”
