Netflix has officially announced that production on Scooby-Doo: Origins, its live-action reimagining of the classic Hanna-Barbera franchise, has wrapped in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday, September 13, 2026. The eight-episode series, which explores how Shaggy, Daphne, Velma, and Fred first came together, is set to premiere globally on Netflix in 2027. To mark the milestone, the streamer shared a new photo of the show’s real Great Dane star, sparking a wave of nostalgia and excitement among fans online.
A Live-Action First for the Franchise
For the first time in more than five decades of Scooby-Doo history, the beloved canine character is being portrayed by a real Great Dane rather than a CGI creation. Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers under their production company Midnight Radio. The pair previously worked together on projects including “High Fidelity” and “Everything Sucks!”. Executive producers also include Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman via Berlanti Productions and its overall deal with Warner Bros. Television. André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson executive produce through Midnight Radio, while Toby Haynes serves as executive producer and directed the first episode. Warner Bros. Television is the studio behind the production.
