Outlander: Blood of My Blood wrapped its first season with both sets of parents separated, a shocking death, and two lovers trapped in the past. The Starz prequel series spent 10 episodes telling the origin stories of Jamie Fraser’s parents in 18th-century Scotland and Claire Beauchamp’s parents in the 20th century. Season 2 is set to premiere on Friday, September 18, 2026, and the first trailer has already teased war, time travel, and another painful separation for both couples.
Brian and Ellen: A Highland Love Story
Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) and Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) met at a Gathering following the death of Jacob “Red” MacKenzie, Ellen’s father. The MacKenzie and Fraser clans were locked in a bitter feud over land and territory, and Brian, the illegitimate son of Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat, had every reason to stay away from Castle Leoch.
Ellen was the eldest child of the late laird, but tradition blocked her from becoming chief because she had two brothers. Colum MacKenzie (Séamus McLean Ross) and Dougal MacKenzie (Sam Retford) fought over the title, each believing the other was unfit to lead. Ellen wanted nothing to do with their power games. She wanted Brian.
Their romance grew despite the danger. Colum and Dougal arranged Ellen’s marriage to Malcolm Grant to secure an alliance with Clan Grant. Ellen agreed to the match only if Colum promised to leave Brian unharmed. Colum broke that promise. He sent assassins after Brian, but Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser (Rory Alexander), who harbored his own feelings for Ellen, intervened and saved his cousin’s life.
Brian raced to Castle Leoch to rescue Ellen. With help from Jocasta, he reached her before the wedding. The couple fled together, but Malcolm caught them. In the struggle, Brian stabbed Malcolm and killed him. Colum was furious, but he had a bigger problem: the alliance with Clan Grant was falling apart. He arranged for Dougal to marry Maura Grant, Malcolm’s sister, to keep the peace.
Henry and Julia: A Time Travel Twist
The biggest reveal of Season 1 was that Claire’s parents were time travelers. Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) was a World War I veteran who fell in love with Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) through letters they wrote during the war. After the war, they married and had Claire. In the premiere, Julia was pregnant with their second child, and the couple was on a trip to Scotland when they accidentally touched the Craigh Na Dun stones and were pulled into the 18th century.
They arrived separately. Henry was taken in by Clan Grant and became an advisor. Julia ended up at Castle Leathers, under the watch of Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat. To protect herself and her unborn child, Julia convinced Lord Lovat that she was carrying his child. Henry, meanwhile, was told by Arch Bug and the Grant men that Julia had died. His mental health collapsed, but he never stopped searching for her.
Henry eventually found Julia, and the couple reunited. The season finale ended with them boarding a train to Inverness, hoping to return to their own time and to Claire.
The Season 1 Finale: Something Borrowed
The finale, titled “Something Borrowed,” opened with a flashback to Claire’s second birthday. Uncle Lamb toasted her and declared she had grand adventures ahead.
In the 18th century, Ellen prepared for her wedding to Malcolm while Brian fought his way to her. The episode delivered a shocking death when Brian killed Malcolm in the corridor of Castle Leoch, leaving his body behind as he and Ellen escaped into the night.
Henry and Julia’s escape was equally tense. They reached the stones and attempted to travel back to their own time, but the attempt went wrong. The season ended with the couple separated once again, leaving their fate unclear.
What Season 2 Will Cover
The 1715 Jacobite Rising will split the Scottish Highlands in two, and both couples will be caught in the middle. Brian and Murtagh must return to Castle Leathers and pledge to fight alongside Lord Lovat. Ellen returns to Castle Leoch, where Colum and Dougal are fighting over how to respond to the call to arms. She devises a plan to protect Clan MacKenzie from the Crown, no matter who wins the uprising.
Henry and Julia, now reunited, are ready to return to their own time and to Claire. When their plan goes wrong, they are parted again. Henry must grapple with his mental health while fighting to find Julia, who is forced back to Castle Leathers to face Lord Lovat once more.
