Anne Hathaway‘s psychological thriller Verity lands on digital rental and purchase platforms on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, less than four weeks after its theatrical debut. The Amazon MGM Studios release has pulled in $162.7 million worldwide against a $40 million production budget, a return of just over four times its cost. Digital viewers in the United States can rent the film for $19.99 or buy it for $24.99 on Prime Video, with the same title also available through Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and YouTube Movies and TV.
Where to Watch Verity at Home
Digital rentals and purchases went live at 12 a.m. ET on October 27, which was 9 p.m. PT on October 26 for viewers on the West Coast. A Prime Video subscription is not required to rent or buy the film. Renters get 30 days to start watching and 48 hours to finish once playback begins. Buyers keep permanent access to the film in their digital library.
The film is rated R for sexual content, some nudity, language, violence, and bloody images. Its theatrical run is still active in North America, so the digital release does not end the cinema window.
The Box Office Numbers Behind the Four-Times Return
Ticket sales broke down to $71.5 million in North America and $91.2 million internationally. The global total of $162.7 million against a $40 million production budget works out to roughly 4.07 times the film’s cost before marketing and distribution spending.
Opening weekend brought in $32.6 million domestically, and the film landed at No. 1 on the North American chart. It became Hathaway’s third No. 1 movie of 2026, following The Devil Wears Prada 2 in May and The Odyssey in July.
Critics and Audiences Split on the Thriller
Review scores told two very different stories. Rotten Tomatoes critics gave the film a 31% to 34% rating across different snapshots of the review count, while the audience score held at 70% to 71%. CinemaScore exit polling handed the film a C+, the lowest grade for any Colleen Hoover adaptation so far.
The commercial result fits a pattern for Hoover’s screen work. It Ends With Us earned a 55% critics’ score but pulled in $349.7 million worldwide. Regretting You scored 29% with critics and made $90.4 million, while Reminders of Him scored 56% and made $89.1 million.

What the Film Is About
Verity follows Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer hired by Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett) to finish the book series left incomplete by his wife, celebrated author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway). Verity is unable to write after a serious accident.
Lowen moves into the family’s remote estate to work on the manuscript and finds a hidden draft that appears to contain Verity’s private confessions. The deeper Lowen reads, the harder it becomes for her to tell fiction from reality, and her feelings for Jeremy complicate everything.
Michael Showalter directed the film. Nick Antosca wrote the screenplay with Hoover credited as a co-writer. Ismael Cruz Cordova, Brady Wagner, Irina Dvorovenko, K.K. Moggie, and Michael Abbott Jr. round out the supporting cast.
A Different Ending Than the Book
The film’s ending changed after test screenings. Showalter and Hoover held focus group sessions with readers and non-readers of the novel. Both groups pushed back on the darker original ending. The theatrical version keeps Lowen uncertain about what she has learned rather than fully accepting it, a shift that drew criticism from some viewers who had read the book.
