Timothy Simons has given fans of Nobody Wants This a reason to keep hoping for Sasha and Morgan. The actor, who plays Sasha on the Netflix romantic comedy, says the show’s third season does not shut the door completely on the unlikely pair’s romantic future, even though the finale left things messy and unresolved.
Simons shared his thoughts in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, published around the season’s debut. His words carry weight because Season 3, which arrived on Netflix on October 22, 2026, turned the slow-burn tension between Sasha and Morgan (Justine Lupe) into a full-blown emotional storm that spilled over into the finale.
What Timothy Simons Said About Sasha and Morgan’s Future
The core of Simons’ comment is about possibility, not a promise. He told the Los Angeles Times that the ending is deliberately open.
“It doesn’t fully close that door, but it’s also just not, Hey, everything’s going to be perfect now.”
That single line captures the situation perfectly. Sasha and Morgan did sleep together during a trip to New York, but the aftermath was anything but simple. Morgan left New York alone the next morning, leaving Sasha confused. By the time Morgan worked through her feelings and tried to express them, Sasha had already pulled back.
Simons explained the character’s choice to reject Morgan’s offer, even though feelings were clearly still there.
“I do think it’s interesting that Sasha has a grown-up and emotionally healthy moment by being like, ‘This might be right, but it’s not the right time.’ But I still think that feeling is in there. It’s just very complicated and very messy.”
The actor also spoke to TODAY.com about the bigger picture for Sasha. He described the character as standing between two very different kinds of love.
“There’s the safety and familiarity of Esther, with whom he shares a daughter and years of history — but is it the most emotionally healthy relationship for either one of them?”
The Season 3 Storyline That Led to the Unresolved Ending
Season 3 of Nobody Wants This shifted the show’s central focus. While Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) moved toward their own wedding, the supporting story belonged to Sasha, his estranged wife Esther (Jackie Tohn) , and Morgan.
Esther asked Sasha for a separation, wanting to figure out whether their long marriage was still serving her. Sasha moved out and temporarily stayed with Morgan and her parents, a setup that pushed their already boundary-testing friendship into new territory. Morgan encouraged Sasha to date again, and he supported her writing. After a series of personal setbacks, the two ended up in New York together for Morgan’s appearance on Watch What Happens Live.
The night they spent together changed everything. Morgan’s sudden departure the next morning sent Sasha reeling. By the time Morgan returned with clarity about her feelings, Sasha had already slept with Esther, complicating an already fragile situation. The finale brought the tension to a head when Esther and Morgan realized Sasha had been intimate with both of them.
Why the Cast Calls It a Situation, Not Just a Love Triangle
The actors have been careful about how they label the Sasha-Esther-Morgan dynamic. In a joint interview with the Los Angeles Times, the trio debated the right words.
Jackie Tohn called it a “messy love triangle.” Timothy Simons pushed back on the term “situationship,” offering a different description.
“I would describe it as a situation rather than a messy love triangle — only because one interesting thing about the show is that these people are not 23.”
Justine Lupe agreed that the circumstances carried more weight than a typical young-adult love triangle.
“If this had happened in Season 1 or Season 2, this would be a messy love triangle, and it would be toxic. The fact that it happened after decisions were made and relationship contracts were established, it becomes more of a situation because no one’s transgressing, no one’s doing anything that they actually shouldn’t be doing. It just is complicated.”
The Different Kinds of Love Pulling Sasha in Two Directions
Simons went deeper into Sasha’s emotional state in his conversation with TODAY.com. He pointed out that Sasha and Esther got together at a young age, and their relationship may not have survived a fresh choice today.
“They got together pretty young. Maybe they wouldn’t make the choice to be together now.”
He contrasted that history with what Sasha shares with Morgan, describing them as two people who understand each other in a way their families do not.
“Weirdo, kindred spirits that fit the same role in their families. I feel like they just understand each other in a very interesting way that nobody else in their family does, and I think that’s one of the things that draws them to each other.”
Lupe offered her own take on why Morgan’s decision to leave New York changed the trajectory of the relationship.
“It gave him a moment to get reasonable, for where he’s at and how he can properly take care of himself. If she had not left, he probably would have been swept up.”
