The trailer of Suriya‘s upcoming Tamil film Scene is finally out, and it shows the star in a role that is very different from the intense cop characters he has played before. Directed by Jithu Madhavan, known for the Malayalam hits Romancham and Aavesham, the film stars Suriya as DSP Inbaraj, a police officer who has no interest in following the rulebook. The trailer was released on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at a grand audio and trailer launch event held at the Sairam Institute in Chennai, starting at 5 PM.
The film is set to arrive in theatres worldwide on November 6, 2026, just ahead of Diwali. The release date was confirmed by the makers in September 2026, and the film will clash at the box office with Nayanthara‘s Mookuthi Amman 2 (also titled Maha Sakthi) and Ranbir Kapoor‘s Ramayana: Part 1, which opens on November 5.
What Happens in the Scene Trailer
The trailer opens with Suriya‘s character Inbaraj sitting at home, relaxing on his sofa and listening to music, having submitted his resignation from the police force. His decision leaves his seniors, colleagues, and subordinates completely confused. His superior officer Stephen, played by Lal, keeps ordering him to report to the office, but Inbaraj ignores every instruction.
Things take a funny turn when Stephen sends a group of policemen to Inbaraj‘s house to bring him in by force. The officers tell him they have orders to carry him if needed. Instead of resisting, Inbaraj simply raises his arms and legs, inviting them to carry him. The policemen end up lifting him out of his house and down the stairs while he casually smokes a cigarette.
When Stephen asks Inbaraj why he wants to quit at the peak of his career and what he plans to do next, the officer replies that he intends to enter politics. The moment has been widely noted as an indirect reference to Suriya‘s Nerukku Ner (1997) and Friends (2000) co-star Vijay, who stepped away from acting in 2026 to pursue a political career and became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Naslen Plays the Villain Eeswaran
The trailer also gives a proper look at Naslen‘s character Eeswaran Joseph, the film’s main antagonist. Naslen, a well-known Malayalam actor, is making his Tamil cinema debut with Scene, and his character is shown as a sharp, ruthless criminal who creates chaos across the city with the same casual attitude as Inbaraj. In one scene, Eeswaran is seen enjoying a lollipop, and in another, he is listening to music, which mirrors the early scene where Inbaraj tells his smart speaker to play “any mood.”
The trailer positions Eeswaran as someone who sees Inbaraj as a worthy opponent. Inbaraj, in his usual maverick style, responds by asking, “Am I your equal?” The face-off between the two characters has been one of the biggest talking points of the promotional material.
Nazriya Nazim Returns to Tamil Cinema as Maya
Nazriya Nazim appears in Scene as Maya, a character who first seems to be Inbaraj‘s house help but is soon shown bashing up people in action sequences. Nazriya is returning to Tamil cinema after a gap of 12 years. Her last Tamil release was the 2014 romantic film Thirumanam Enum Nikkah. The trailer presents Maya as someone who is equally comfortable taking charge of situations and getting physical when required, marking a rare action-oriented role for the actress.
Suriya praised Nazriya‘s performance at the film’s pre-release event in Dubai. He said, “Nazriya brings so much to the film with her natural performance and screen presence. Her character, Maya, is so beautifully written and fully realised.”
A Callback to Singam and a Comedic Tone
The trailer ends with a comic callback to Suriya‘s iconic cop character Durai Singam from the Singam franchise. The line “Ongi adicha ondra ton weight da!” is referenced in a lighter, humorous way, which fits the overall tone of Scene as an action comedy rather than a serious cop thriller.
Jithu Madhavan has directed both Romancham (2023) and Aavesham (2024), and his style of mixing humour with unusual situations is clearly visible in the Scene trailer. The director has said that Suriya‘s police officer role in Scene is very different from his earlier cop roles in Kaakha Kaakha and Singam. “He was very free. I cannot handle stardom, but he understood it,” Jithu said about working with Suriya. “During narration, he was asking me things, and I answered in one word. He stayed with me, and he put in the effort.”
Suriya’s Third Release of 2026
Scene is Suriya‘s 47th film and his third theatrical release of 2026. His first two releases this year were Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji, and Vishwanath & Sons, directed by Venky Atluri. Both films performed well at the box office, and Karuppu became the biggest Tamil grosser of the year, collecting well over โน300 Crore worldwide. Together, the two films pushed Suriya‘s combined worldwide gross for 2026 past the โน500 Crore mark, a rare feat for any Indian actor in a single calendar year.
Sharing the trailer on his X account, Suriya wrote: “Murder. Mystery. Madnessโฆ and a whole lot of laughter! Enjoy #Scene in theatres with friends and family! With love from us to you. In cinemas from 6th Nov 2026! #DiwaliRelease.”
Cast, Crew, and Production Details
Scene is produced by Suriya and Jyothika under the banners of Zhagaram Studios and 2D Entertainment. Jaishree Damodaran is onboard as a co-producer. The film’s music is composed by Sushin Shyam, who is making his Tamil cinema debut after working with Jithu Madhavan on Romancham and Aavesham. The cinematography is handled by Vineeth Augustian, and Ajmal Sabu is the editor. The action sequences were choreographed by Chethan D’Souza, and the production design is by Ashwini Kale. Sony Music South has secured the film’s music rights.
The supporting cast includes Anandaraj, Lal, Raj Priyan, and John Vijay in pivotal roles. Raj Priyan, a social media influencer, is also making his film debut with Scene.
Two songs from the film have already been released and have gained popularity. The first single, “Aathi Iva Yarraa”, was followed by “Aeroplane”, a romantic track featuring Suriya and Nazriya. A new track titled “Respectaa”, featuring vocals by Arivu and lyrics by Vaasi, was also featured in a new glimpse of the film released in late October.
Runtime and Censor Certificate
Scene has completed its censor formalities and received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The runtime of the film is 2 hours and 6 minutes. Reports also indicate that the film has received a U/A 16+ certificate, though the official CBFC listing confirms the U/A rating.
Advance Bookings and Global Release
Advance ticket sales for Scene opened internationally in Australia first, with U.S. bookings starting on October 27 through distributor Prime Media. Malaysia was set to follow shortly through MSK Cinemas. Home Screen Entertainment is handling theatrical distribution across Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. In Kerala, Sree Gokulam Movies is releasing the film on a large scale, with Dream Big Films as the distribution partner.
For Telugu audiences, Scene has secured a theatrical release and is expected to target a gross collection of approximately โน25โ30 Crore across the Telugu states to reach its break-even point. The film is releasing simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu, which could strengthen its contribution to the Diwali box office window.
Netflix holds the OTT streaming rights for Scene. The exact digital release date has not been announced yet, and the film will stream on Netflix after its theatrical window.

What the Director and Cast Have Said
Jithu Madhavan revealed that Scene was initially planned with Fahadh Faasil and Nazriya in the lead roles in Malayalam. The plan changed when the director began developing the story for Suriya. “Fahadh Faasil and I discussed the story of Scene. He liked it, and I also narrated another story to him, which he liked as well. Initially, I planned to make Scene with Fahadh Faasil and Nazriya. Later, I told Fahadh Faasil that I was working on the story of Scene for Suriya sir. Let’s see how it goes,” Jithu said.
Suriya has spoken about how much he enjoyed working with the Malayalam team. “I had quietly manifested the opportunity to work with Jithu, the director of Romancham and Aavesham, because I really love his work. I never imagined it would happen so soon!” he said at the Dubai pre-release event. He also recalled that Jithu‘s narration made him laugh within the first five minutes, which is unusual for him as he is usually a quiet listener during story narrations.
Jithu also praised Suriya‘s commitment and work ethic. The director revealed that they did 20 takes for one scene, and Suriya never tired of the retakes. “He would keep improvising, and I also would make suggestions, and he would never tire of the many retakes,” Jithu said.
Naslen, who plays the villain Eeswaran, said that acting with Suriya was scary but also a great learning experience. “The shoot went from evening six to morning six. Even when we all become like zombies after the shoot, we would see Suriya sir at 9 am in the dubbing studio with much freshness and energy, without any tantrums,” Naslen said.
A Busy Diwali Window
Scene is releasing in a crowded Diwali window. Ramayana: Part 1, starring Ranbir Kapoor, opens on November 5, and Mookuthi Amman 2 (also titled Maha Sakthi), starring Nayanthara, opens on November 6, the same day as Scene. Trade analysts have noted that Scene has the advantage of being a Tamil-language film with strong local appeal, but the final box office performance will depend heavily on word-of-mouth.
Suriya‘s recent box office momentum has raised expectations for Scene to become his third major hit of 2026. Early trade predictions suggest an opening of around โน28 Crore over the first three days in Tamil, with a strong case for โน40 Crore if word-of-mouth is positive.
