The oil rigs are firing back up. Landman has officially returned for its second season, bringing viewers back to the cutthroat world of West Texas oil . The Paramount+ drama, created by Taylor Sheridan, premiered its new season on Sunday, November 16, 2025 . While the business of oil remains central, the stars of the show confirm that this season shifts its focus deeper into the tangled web of family, power, and dangerous alliances .

For the returning cast, coming back to the set was about more than just another job. Many describe a unique connection with the material and each other that makes the production stand out . With new faces joining the drama and the fallout from last season’s major death creating a power vacuum, the actors are diving into more intense and personal storylines .

Meet the Returning Cast and New Faces

The world of Landman has seen some significant changes heading into the new season. Following the death of Jon Hamm’s character, Monty Miller, in the Season 1 finale, not every face from the first season is returning . However, a core group is back, alongside some exciting new additions poised to shake up the balance of power in West Texas.

Leading the charge once again is Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, who steps into the role of president of M-Tex Oil after Monty’s passing . His ex-wife, Angela, played by Ali Larter, is also back as they navigate their complicated rekindled relationship . Their children, Cooper and Ainsley, portrayed by Jacob Lofland and Michelle Randolph, return with their own growing storylines .

A major shift sees Demi Moore’s character, Cami Miller, moving from a supporting role to the forefront. As Monty’s widow and the company’s top stakeholder, Cami is thrust into leadership. Moore explained her character’s journey, stating:

โ€œI think, at the beginning, [Tommy] really is her guide and anchor. In the opening, you really see that I’m kind of a lamb being thrown into the lion’s den [and] really having to have a real show of strength.โ€

Other returning stars include Andy Garcia as the cartel boss Gallino, who has been upgraded from a guest star to a main cast member, and Paulina Chรกvez as Ariana . Colm Feore, who plays Tommy’s roommate Nathan, has been promoted from a recurring role to a series regular .

The most notable new face is legendary actor Sam Elliott, who joins the cast as T.L., Tommy’s father . His arrival is sure to stir up family history. Another new addition is Stefania Spampinato, who will play the wife of cartel boss Gallino .

What the Cast Says About Season 2’s Focus

If the first season was about setting up the complex world of oil and gas, the cast agrees that Season 2 is where the story gets personal. The actors have shared that the new episodes allow for a deeper exploration of character relationships and internal conflicts .

Billy Bob Thornton highlighted this shift, noting that the audience can now settle in and get to know the characters beyond their business roles. He explained:

โ€œYouโ€™re going to see who he really is at the end of the dayโ€ฆ Youโ€™re going to see how he deals with family, business, his own mortality, just everything.โ€

This focus on family is a thread that runs through many of the characters’ arcs. Ali Larter, who plays Angela, emphasized that the family unit becomes the emotional core of the show. She pointed out that the second season explores fundamental questions about their relationships, moving from big dinner scenes to more intimate, vulnerable moments .

For the younger characters, it’s a season of growth and self-discovery. Michelle Randolph finds playing Ainsley fulfilling because she is not a fully-formed person yet. She gets to explore the character’s journey as a teenager figuring out her identity and independence . Jacob Lofland’s Cooper, meanwhile, steps out to start his own oil business, a move that brings new dangers and worries his father .

Behind the Scenes Bonds and On-Set Experiences

Beyond the script, the cast points to a genuine camaraderie and respect for the creative team as key ingredients in the show’s success. Many attribute the show’s authentic feel to the environment cultivated by creator Taylor Sheridan and the ensemble he assembled .

Ali Larter spoke about the special dynamic, saying, โ€œHe just knows some kind of magic potion, because not only do we get along off-set – on-camera, it just kind of enhances all of our relationships.โ€ This sentiment is echoed by co-creator Christian Wallace, who expressed awe at watching the legendary cast play off each other and bring depth to the writing .

The actors also shared some memorable, and sometimes challenging, moments from filming. Billy Bob Thornton recalled one of his favorite scenes from the first season, a now-viral moment at a football game where Ainsley discusses her personal life with shocking frankness. Thornton, a father in real life, said the scene required little acting, just a genuine reaction of a stunned dad .

Michelle Randolph remembered filming that particular scene, which was done in front of a crowd of extras on a freezing cold day. She admitted to feeling mortified having to say the bold lines in front of people who didn’t know the context of the show, while Thornton simply had to walk away .

For new addition Sam Elliott, joining the show felt like a homecoming in many ways. He previously worked with Sheridan on 1883 and was reunited with many crew members from that project. Elliott is already excited about the future, looking past the current season to what stories may come next .
