Apple TV+ has announced that Ted Lasso Season 4 will premiere in the summer of 2026, bringing the beloved coach and a mix of familiar faces back to Richmond. The new season marks a major shift in the story, focusing on Ted’s next big challenge. While the exact release date is not yet set, new first-look photos and casting details give fans a lot to look forward to as production continues.

The show’s return comes nearly three years after the Season 3 finale in May 2023, which many viewers thought was the series’ end. The official confirmation of a fourth season arrived in March 2025. Filming for the new episodes began in July 2025.

What Will Season 4 Be About? A New Team for Ted

The storyline for the new season moves in a fresh direction. The official logline from Apple TV+ states that Ted returns to Richmond to coach a second-division women’s football team, calling it his “biggest challenge yet”.

This plot was first hinted at in the Season 3 finale when Juno Temple’s character, Keeley Jones, pitched the idea of a women’s team to club owner Rebecca Welton, played by Hannah Waddingham. Jason Sudeikis confirmed the plot himself, telling the New Heights podcast, “We’re writing Season 4 right nowโ€ฆ Ted’s coaching a women’s team”.

The season’s theme will be about taking risks. Sudeikis shared that the characters will “learn to leap before they look, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be”.

Who Is Coming Back? Confirmed Returning Cast and Notable Absences

The core cast from the first three seasons is set to return, led by Jason Sudeikis as the optimistic Coach Ted Lasso. He will be joined by:

  • Hannah Waddingham as AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton.
  • Juno Temple as public relations expert Keeley Jones.
  • Brett Goldstein as the gruff but caring coach Roy Kent.
  • Brendan Hunt as the loyal Coach Beard.
  • Jeremy Swift as the kind-hearted Director of Football Operations, Leslie Higgins.

However, the cast list reveals some significant changes. Several actors from the original ensemble are not currently confirmed to return. This includes:

  • Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt)
  • Nick Mohammed (Nate Shelley)
  • Toheeb Jimoh (Sam Obisanya)
  • Cristo Fernรกndez (Dani Rojas)

Reports indicate that Phil Dunster’s absence is due to scheduling conflicts with other projects. Regarding his character Nate, actor Nick Mohammed recently said his return is “all speculative,” adding, “this is a show that’s focusing on the women’s football team”.

Meet the New Faces Joining AFC Richmond

Season 4 will introduce a host of new characters, likely forming the new women’s team and its staff. The new cast members include:

  • Tanya Reynolds (known for Sex Education)
  • Jude Mack (Prime Target)
  • Faye Marsay (Andor)
  • Rex Hayes (The Pact)
  • Aisling Sharkey (Jurassic World: Dominion)
  • Abbie Hern (My Lady Jane)

There is also one major recast. The role of Ted’s son, Henry Lasso, will now be played by Grant Feely. Feely is known for playing a young Luke Skywalker in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi. He takes over from Gus Turner, who played Henry in the first three seasons.

First-Look Photos and Fan Reactions

Apple TV+ released several new photos in January 2026, offering a glimpse into the upcoming season. The images show:

  • Ted and Rebecca outside a private jet, seemingly exchanging their famous biscuits.
  • A first look at Tanya Reynolds’ new character, who appears to be a coach for the women’s team.
  • Ted visiting Mae’s pub with his son, Henry.

The announcement and photos have sparked excited but mixed reactions from fans online. Some express worry about the show continuing after what felt like a perfect ending. One fan commented, “I loved this show but I don’t know that it has anything more to say,” while another pleaded, “Please be good. PLEASE BE GOOD”.

Many other fans are thrilled. Reactions include “BEST NEWS EVERRRRR” and “My love Rebecca is coming back to me! Summer cannot come soon enough!”

Behind the Scenes: The Creative Team

The writing and production team includes many series veterans. Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt are back as executive producers and writers. Brett Goldstein also returns as a writer and executive producer.

A key new addition is Emmy winner Jack Burditt (30 Rock, Modern Family), who has joined as an executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Sudeikis. Co-creator Bill Lawrence remains an executive producer via his Doozer Productions company.
