After a three-month break, the Straw Hat Pirates are finally setting sail again. The One Piece anime will return from its production hiatus on April 5, 2026, bringing fans the long-awaited Elbaph Arc. This marks a major change for the series, which has been airing almost weekly since 1999. Toei Animation is shifting to a seasonal format starting this spring, aiming to improve animation quality and storytelling pace.

Return Date and Episode Release Schedule

The new episode, Episode 1156, will officially premiere on April 5, 2026. This release kicks off the Elbaph Arc, a storyline that manga readers have been following closely and one that anime-only viewers have been waiting to see for years.

The anime’s production break began after Episode 1155 aired on December 28, 2025. The pause was announced by Toei Animation to give the staff time to rest and to prepare for a new production structure. Moving forward, the studio will produce a maximum of 26 episodes per year, split into two separate cours (or blocks) rather than running year-round. The first cours will begin in April and run through June, with a second cours expected later in 2026.

Global Release Time for Crunchyroll

For viewers outside Japan, Crunchyroll will stream new episodes as a simulcast shortly after they air on Fuji TV. The release times vary by region. Here is when you can expect Episode 1156 on Crunchyroll:

  • Pacific Time (USA/Canada): Saturday, April 5 at 5:00 PM
  • Eastern Time (USA/Canada): Saturday, April 5 at 8:00 PM
  • Central European Time: Sunday, April 6 at 2:00 AM
  • United Kingdom (GMT): Sunday, April 6 at 1:00 AM
  • India (IST): Sunday, April 6 at 5:30 AM
  • Philippine Time: Sunday, April 6 at 8:00 AM
  • Australia (AEDT): Sunday, April 6 at 10:00 AM

If you prefer watching the English dub, Crunchyroll will first release the final batch of Egghead Arc dubbed episodes (Episodes 1144–1155) starting March 24, 2026, to complete that storyline before the new arc begins.

How to Watch One Piece Elbaph Arc

Crunchyroll remains the best option for watching new episodes as soon as they release. The service provides subtitled versions within hours of the Japanese broadcast. The platform is available in most regions, including the United States, Canada, India, Australia, and Latin America.

Netflix is another option, though episodes will arrive about one week later. Netflix India has listed new episodes for release on April 11, 2026, which is six days after the Crunchyroll premiere. If you already have a Netflix subscription and do not mind a short delay, this can be a convenient way to watch. Netflix currently carries the Egghead Arc episodes (1089–1155) and is building its library of One Piece content, including several movies.

BBC iPlayer in the United Kingdom holds exclusive rights to the English dub. However, it does not stream the latest episodes as quickly as Crunchyroll. You will need a valid TV licence to access the service legally.

What to Expect from the Elbaph Arc

The Elbaph Arc takes the Straw Hat crew to the legendary Land of Giants, a location that has been teased since the early days of the series. Fans first heard about Elbaph during the Little Garden Arc, and it has remained a significant part of the world-building ever since.

This arc is expected to dive deep into the history of the giants, the events surrounding the God Valley Incident, and connections to Shanks and the broader mysteries of the One Piece world. Without giving away spoilers, the arc carries heavy weight in the Final Saga and includes major character moments for several crew members.

Toei Animation has stated that the new production schedule will allow episodes to “incorporate more content, tempo, and pacing of the manga” while keeping the unique strengths of animation. Historically, the anime adapted roughly one manga chapter per episode, which sometimes led to slower pacing. With more production time and fewer episodes per year, the studio hopes to deliver a tighter viewing experience.

“The new schedule will allow episodes to incorporate more content, tempo, and pacing of the manga while continuing to leverage the unique storytelling that is only possible with animation.”

Background on the Production Hiatus

The decision to pause the anime came in late 2025 after the conclusion of the Egghead Arc. For 26 years, One Piece aired almost every week, making it one of the longest-running weekly anime in history. The production team decided to take a three-month break from January through March 2026 to recharge and transition to the new seasonal model.

During the break, Toei aired a special recap of the Egghead Arc to help viewers catch up. The change has generated discussion among fans. While some are concerned about longer waits between episodes, others are looking forward to seeing the series benefit from improved animation and better pacing as it moves toward its final storylines.

The One Piece manga by Eiichiro Oda continues to run, and the anime will now keep a more consistent distance from the source material, reducing the need for filler episodes that were common in the weekly format.
