“Without revealing too much, hopefully there’s more of a friendship for Mel that develops in season 2. And then hopefully we see what a friendship with Mel looks like in season 3. That’s what I’m always going for – friends for Mel.”
Dearden, who is the daughter of actor Bryan Cranston, has previously discussed how she approaches playing Mel. The production team works closely with medical professionals, including experts from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, which serves as inspiration for the show’s setting.
Supriya Ganesh, who plays Dr. Samira Mohan, has a background in medicine herself and praised the show’s commitment to accuracy. At the Actor Awards, she explained how the scripts stood out to her compared to other medical shows she had read for.
“I have some background in medicine and I read for a lot of South Asian doctors as a Brown woman. I’ve read almost every medical script in the past three to four years. So when I got The Pitt, I was like, ‘Oh, this is actually medically accurate.’ I didn’t need to turn off that part of my brain. I read it and I was like, ‘This is gonna be a hit.’ Because it’s so — I’ve never seen anything, I never read anything this realistic.”
Ganesh also teased that her character is left in an interesting place at the end of Season 2, and she is curious to see where the writers take Samira in the third season.

“We’ve built a pressure cooker where every hour we turn up the temperature, we add more ingredients, then just when it’s about to explode we drop a piano on it.”
Wyle also shared that the success of Season 2 showed the team something important about the show’s appeal. Viewers connect with watching everyday people face the challenges of a regular day at work, without needing dramatic disasters to keep things engaging. He noted that if audiences continue to respond to this approach, the show could potentially continue for many seasons to come.
