The action-comedy Welcome To The Jungle has been one of the biggest Bollywood releases of the year, featuring a massive ensemble cast. However, audiences who followed the film’s production closely noticed that some big names initially attached to the project were missing from the final cut. Director Ahmed Khan has now broken his silence, addressing the exit of Sanjay Dutt and clearing up rumors about the actor’s departure from the film.
What Happened to Sanjay Dutt in ‘Welcome To The Jungle’
Dutt was a prominent part of the film’s early promotions. Akshay Kumar even posted a video welcoming him to the sets in December 2023. But the final movie, which hit theaters on June 26, 2026, did not feature the actor. Khan explained that Dutt had indeed shot for a portion of the film before stepping away.
The director clarified that the exit was strictly due to scheduling conflicts and a medical trip. Sanjay Dutt had to go to the US for treatment, and the production couldn’t adjust the dates of over 30 other actors to accommodate the delay.
“Sanju Baba loved the script, and he really wanted to be a part of the film. Film mein itne saare friends the unke – Jaggu Dada (Jackie Shroff), Akshay, etc. He was thrilled. We shot a part of the film with him. But he had date issues. He had to go to the US. He went there for his treatment, and I couldn’t shift the dates of so many actors.” – Ahmed Khan, Director
Sanjay Dutt Helped Solve the Casting Crisis
While Dutt’s exit presented a major challenge for the team, the actor ensured he didn’t leave them in a tough spot. Instead of simply walking away, Dutt actively helped find a solution.
Khan revealed that Dutt personally got involved in reorganizing the casting. He called his friend Suniel Shetty and asked him to take over the role that was initially written for him. To complete the shuffle, Dutt then requested Jackie Shroff to step into the character that had originally been assigned to Suniel Shetty.
“He graciously called Suniel Shetty and told him to play the character that he was supposed to play and requested Jackie Shroff to play the role that Suniel Shetty was initially set to play. He set up a solution for his unavailability. We’ll always remain grateful to baba for that.” – Ahmed Khan
This collaborative reshuffle allowed the production to continue smoothly without a major setback.
The Mega Cast of ‘Welcome To The Jungle’
Even with these changes, Welcome To The Jungle remains one of the biggest multi-starrers in recent times. The film features a powerhouse cast including Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, Jackie Shroff, Paresh Rawal, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, and Johny Lever.
It was not just Dutt who was missing. Other actors like Sharib Hashmi and Rahul Dev also exited due to scheduling conflicts. Hashmi had to leave because the shooting dates clashed with ‘The Family Man Season 3’, while Rahul Dev had prior commitments to Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis.
