Bollywood star Ajay Devgn is stepping into a new role. The actor will make his television hosting debut with the long-running true-crime series ‘Crime Patrol’. The new season, titled ‘Crime Patrol 2026 – Crime Ka Current Season’, premieres on August 31, 2026.
The show will air at 10:30 pm on Sony Entertainment Television and will also be available for streaming on Sony LIV.
Ajay Devgn Takes Over from Anup Soni as Host
Ajay Devgn replaces Anup Soni, who has been the face of the franchise for many years. Soni remains closely associated with the series, having hosted it with his own distinct style.
Over the years, ‘Crime Patrol’ has seen multiple hosts. Apart from Soni, actors including Diwakar Pundir, Shakti Anand, Sakshi Tanwar, Sanjeev Tyagi, Divyanka Tripathi, Sonali Kulkarni and Ashutosh Rana have presented different editions of the show.
New Promo Released – “Main Rahunga Aapke Saath”
The makers recently released the first promo featuring Ajay Devgn. In the promo, Devgn delivers a direct message to viewers about modern crime trends. He points out that in many cases, the person behind a crime is not a stranger but someone known to the victim.
“Bachpan mein hame sikhaya jata hai ajnabiyon se bach kar rehna, raat ko ghar ka tala lagana, par ab jo ho raha hai… Jurm karne wala koi anjaan nahi, apna hota hai. Jinhe hamare ghar ka raasta bhi pata hota hai, kabhi kabhi chabhi bhi hoti hai aur dining table par kursi bhi…”
(Translation: We are taught in childhood to stay away from strangers and lock our doors at night, but what is happening now… The person committing the crime is often not a stranger, but someone close—someone who knows the way to our home, has the keys, and has a chair at the dining table.)
The actor ends the promo by assuring viewers, “Main rahunga aapke saath” (I will be with you).
Ajay Devgn on His Responsibility as Host
Speaking about his association with the show, Ajay Devgn said that being part of ‘Crime Patrol’ comes with a responsibility towards its viewers.
“Coming together with a show like Crime Patrol feels like a responsibility to my fans and viewers. The show has built a legacy of understanding crime stories while driving awareness among viewers, encouraging them to become more vigilant about the people around them and who they interact with and trust.”
The actor also spoke about the stories featured on the show. He said he hopes they help viewers stay careful rather than fearful.
“As we bring to the forefront some of the stories inspired by cases that have shaken the nation, I hope and believe that I can help and guide audiences to navigate them with caution rather than fear.”
15 Episodes Already Shot – Continuation Depends on Audience Response
According to sources, Ajay Devgn has already shot for 15 episodes of the new season. Whether he continues as host for the rest of the series will depend on audience response and ratings.
“Ajay Devgn has currently shot for 15 episodes. Whether he will continue with the rest of the series depends upon the audience’s reaction and the numbers,” a source told IANS.
Reports also indicate that Rajesh Tailang, known for his role in ‘Delhi Crime’, will host a few episodes of the upcoming season. The exact number of episodes he will appear in has not been decided yet and will depend on how viewers respond to Ajay Devgn’s episodes.
Ajay Devgn’s Cop Image Comes to Television
Ajay Devgn is known for playing police and law enforcement characters on the big screen. His roles in films such as ‘Gangaajal’ , ‘Singham’ and ‘Drishyam’ have established his connection with crime and investigation stories.
The makers reportedly chose Devgn because of his strong association with the cop genre. His commanding on-screen presence and voice will take viewers through stories inspired by cases that have shaken the nation.
This marks Devgn’s first major television hosting assignment. Earlier, in 2008, he appeared as a celebrity judge on the Zee TV dance reality show ‘Rock-N-Roll Family’ alongside his wife Kajol and mother-in-law Tanuja.
About ‘Crime Patrol’
‘Crime Patrol’ first premiered on Sony TV on May 9, 2003. It has become one of the longest-running crime franchises on Indian television. The show presents dramatised versions of real-life crime cases, often focusing on the circumstances surrounding a crime and the subsequent investigation.
Over the years, the franchise has gone through several format and title changes, including ‘Crime Patrol Dastak’, ‘Crime Patrol Satark’ and ‘Crime Patrol Dial 100’.
The upcoming season will focus on contemporary crime stories and examine how criminal cases have evolved over the years.
