Apple recently launched its new Mac Studio models in India, featuring the powerful M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. While the base model starts at a more manageable price, the fully loaded version with the M5 Ultra chip and all available upgrades costs more than ₹21 lakh. What Makes the M5 Ultra Mac Studio So Expensive?
The M5 Ultra chip is Apple’s most powerful processor ever created. It combines two M5 Max chips using Apple’s UltraFusion technology, creating a quad-die architecture with over 4.4TB/s of inter-die bandwidth. Why Is the Price So High in India?
The ₹21.66 lakh price tag for the fully loaded Mac Studio is not just because of the powerful components. Several factors contribute to this high cost in India:
Global memory shortage: The AI data center boom has created an unprecedented supply squeeze on memory components. Companies building massive AI infrastructure have been pre-ordering huge volumes of RAM, tightening supply for consumer hardware and pushing up costs.
Import duties and taxes: Apple products in India attract significant import duties and taxes, which add to the final price. The M5 Ultra model starts at $5,499 in the US (roughly ₹5.22 lakh) but costs ₹6,29,900 in India. The price difference becomes even more pronounced at higher configurations.
Currency conversion: The dollar-to-rupee conversion rate also affects pricing. While the US price for the maxed-out configuration is $18,299, the Indian price of ₹21.66 lakh reflects the exchange rate and additional costs.
Who Is This Machine For?
The Mac Studio with M5 Ultra is not designed for average consumers. It targets professionals who need extreme computing power for:

However, the maxed-out 512GB unified memory configuration will not be available until late October 2026. Apple has not yet announced the exact pricing for this specific configuration, but based on the component costs and US pricing, it is expected to be the ₹21.66 lakh figure.
The M5 Max version starts at ₹2,79,900, while the M5 Ultra begins at ₹6,29,900. Education pricing is available at ₹2,56,900 and ₹5,84,900 respectively. Apple is also offering up to six months of no-interest EMI and up to ₹10,000 cashback on Mac Studio with eligible credit cards.
