ASTRO member and actor Cha Eun Woo will begin his mandatory military service on July 28, 2025, as part of the South Korean Army Military Band. His agency, Fantagio, confirmed the news on May 29, stating he successfully passed the audition process.
Cha Eun Woo applied earlier this month to join the military band, a special unit for performers. The Military Manpower Administration approved his application, allowing him to serve using his musical talents. After basic training, he will officially join the band for the remainder of his service.
“Cha Eun Woo will enlist for his mandatory military service through the new recruit training center on July 28. Upon completing his basic training, he will carry out the remainder of his mandatory service as a member of the military band,” Fantagio said in a statement.
To prevent overcrowding, the agency will not disclose his enlistment location or time. No public events are planned, and fans are asked to respect his privacy. Fantagio also requested support for Cha Eun Woo as he fulfills his national duty.
Before enlisting, Cha Eun Woo will perform at ASTRO’s 4th solo concert, The 4th ASTROAD [Stargraphy], on June 7-8 at Incheon’s Inspire Arena. The concert marks the group’s first full-group performance since 2022 and will feature former member Rocky.
The concert poster includes a white butterfly, symbolizing late member Moonbin. ASTRO recently released Moon in the Dream, a tribute song for Moonbin, deepening the emotional significance of the event.
Cha Eun Woo is also filming the Netflix drama The Wonder Fools alongside Park Eun Bin. The series is expected to release in 2026. He recently starred in the thriller Wonderful World and appeared in IU’s music video A Beautiful Person.
Fans worldwide have shared supportive messages online. One fan wrote, “18 months without seeing Eun Woo is the biggest heartbreak this year, but I know he’ll come back stronger. So proud of him.”
Cha Eun Woo is the second ASTRO member to enlist after MJ, who completed his service in 2023. His solo debut EP, Entity, was released in February 2025.
