Bollywood is making a strong return to romantic films. After the success of love stories like Saiyaara, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, and Tere Ishk Mein, filmmakers have noticed what audiences want to see. The Hindi film industry is now preparing to release multiple romantic dramas in 2026. These new movies bring fresh pairs, emotional stories, and even some sequels to loved films.
The lineup includes big Bollywood debuts, returns of famous actors to romance, and unique story ideas. From a love story set in Japan to a sequel of a cult classic, here are the five romantic films coming to theatres soon.
‘Ek Din’ Brings Sai Pallavi and Junaid Khan Together on May 1
Sai Pallavi is making her Bollywood debut with Ek Din. She stars opposite Junaid Khan, son of Aamir Khan. The film releases in theatres on May 1, 2026. The story takes place in Japan, where most of the movie was filmed.
The trailer shows Junaid playing an office worker who secretly likes Sai Pallavi’s character. During a company trip to Japan, she meets with an accident and suffers from short-term memory loss. She only remembers events for one day. Junaid’s character becomes her support during this time. The film is produced by Aamir Khan Productions and directed by Sunil Pandey.
The romantic drama carries a tragic love story with a memory loss twist. The trailer gives a look at an emotional tale where a single day changes everything for the two leads.
‘Chand Mera Dil’ Arrives on May 22 with Lakshya and Ananya Panday
Lakshya, who showed his action skills in Kill (2024), now shows his romantic side with Chand Mera Dil. He stars opposite Ananya Panday in this love story. The film releases on May 22, 2026.
The movie is directed by Vivek Soni and backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. The makers shared new posters on social media with the release date. The film was earlier set to release on April 10 but got pushed to May 22. The teaser came out on April 7.
The poster shows Lakshya and Ananya in a tight embrace. The makers described it as a story that breaks, heals, and redefines being crazy in love. This marks the first time these two actors work together.
‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ Brings Imtiaz Ali and AR Rahman Together on June 12
Imtiaz Ali returns with a love story that spans generations. Main Vaapas Aaunga stars Vedang Raina, Sharvari, Diljit Dosanjh, and Naseeruddin Shah. The film releases on June 12, 2026.
The story is set during the time of partition and features music by AR Rahman. Lyrics are written by Irshad Kamil. This is the same team that worked on classics like Rockstar and Tamasha. Diljit Dosanjh has already recorded new songs composed by Rahman for the film.
The film is produced by Applause Entertainment, Window Seat Films, and Mohit Choudhary. The project brings back the famous trio of Ali, Rahman, and Kamil after a long time. Fans of Imtiaz Ali’s style of storytelling are waiting for this release.
‘Awarapan 2’ Brings Emraan Hashmi Back to Romance with August Release
Emraan Hashmi was the face of romantic dramas in the 2000s. He now returns to the genre with Awarapan 2, the sequel to his 2007 cult film. The sequel reportedly stars Disha Patani opposite Emraan.
The film was first set to release on April 3, 2026 but got postponed. According to latest reports, the film is now eyeing the Independence Day weekend in August 2026. The shooting is still going on and is expected to finish by the end of April. Post-production will take about two months after that.
The original Awarapan directed by Mohit Suri did not do well at the box office but gained a cult fan following over the years. The story followed a gangster named Shivam Pandit who is ordered to watch over his boss’s secret mistress. The sequel is being directed by Nitin Kakkar, known for films like Jawaani Jaaneman and Notebook.

Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela’s Untitled Romantic Drama Coming Later in 2026
Kartik Aaryan is teaming up with director Anurag Basu for a romantic drama. The film also stars Sreeleela, marking her Bollywood debut. The project was earlier said to be Aashiqui 3, but due to a legal dispute over the title, the film is yet to be named.
The film was supposed to release in 2025, but the new date has not been announced yet. Reports suggest it may arrive later in 2026. Sreeleela spoke about working with Kartik in a recent interview. She called him a sorted and smart person and said she respects his work and journey. She added that there is a lot to learn from him and she is looking forward to shooting with him.
Sreeleela became known to Hindi audiences with her song Kissik from Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024). This film will be her first full role in Bollywood.
