BTS continues to rewrite the music history books. Their fifth studio album, ARIRANG, has achieved a remarkable milestone on the Billboard 200 chart. The album has now spent 12 non-consecutive weeks within the top 10 of the prestigious ranking. This achievement sets a new all-time record for any Korean artist. ARIRANG also marks its 14th consecutive week on the overall Billboard 200 chart.

New Record for K-Pop on Billboard 200

The Billboard 200 ranks the most popular albums in the United States. The chart is based on multi-metric consumption. This includes album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). For the chart dated July 4, 2026, BTS’s ARIRANG held the No. 10 spot. This achievement was confirmed by Billboard on June 28 local time.

A total of 33,000 equivalent album units were earned by ARIRANG during the week ending on June 25. This consistent performance has made the album the first by a Korean artist to remain in the top 10 for such a long time. The album’s journey to this historic point began with an explosive debut.

A Powerful Comeback and Strong Sales

ARIRANG was released on March 29, 2026. It marked the group’s first full-group project in nearly four years, following their mandatory military service. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It earned a massive 641,000 equivalent album units in its first week. This included 532,000 traditional album sales. The opening week was the biggest for any album in 2026 at the time. It also achieved the biggest U.S. sales week for any group since One Direction’s Midnight Memories in 2013.

The album’s commercial strength continued in its second week. It held the No. 1 spot by earning an additional 187,000 units. This made ARIRANG the longest-running No. 1 album by a group in over a decade. The last group to achieve three weeks at No. 1 was Mumford & Sons with Babel in 2013. The success of ARIRANG is deeply connected to its cultural significance and the themes it explores.

The Meaning of ‘ARIRANG’ and Fan Reactions

The title track of the album is a modern interpretation of “Arirang.” This is Korea’s most iconic and beloved traditional folk song. It is often considered an unofficial national anthem. The group performed this song live at a historic comeback event. The event was titled BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG. It was held at Seoul’s Gwanghwamun Square and streamed live on Netflix to over 190 countries. Approximately 260,000 people gathered at the square to witness the performance.

The performance created an emotional response from fans worldwide, known as ARMY. The group’s connection to Korean culture through this song resonated deeply.

feeling overwhelmingly patriotic to the point of tears and i’m not even koreanโ€ฆ..this is how bangtan connects korean culture with the world .

This level of engagement was fueled by global marketing and interactive experiences, such as the “Decoding ARIRANG” challenge on Spotify. This campaign invited fans on a digital treasure hunt to unlock exclusive voice messages from the members.

The return of BTS has been celebrated globally. ARIRANG is the group’s seventh album to top the Billboard 200. Their previous No. 1 albums include Love Yourself: Tear, Love Yourself: Answer, Map of the Soul: Persona, Map of the Soul: 7, BE, and Proof. The album’s success is not just limited to the Billboard 200. The lead single “Swim” also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The commercial strategy behind the album also played a key role. It included 17 vinyl variants and 9 CD editions, which contributed to its record-breaking sales.
