BTS member V (Kim Taehyung) shocked fans during a live broadcast when he opened up about a serious health issue he has been hiding for years. The 30-year-old singer revealed that his hearing has been getting worse for about two and a half years. He also shared that his condition became more severe while he was serving in the South Korean military.

The revelation came during a Weverse livestream on August 12, 2026, where V was joined by fellow BTS member Jungkook. The two singers were having a meal together after wrapping up the group’s back-to-back concerts in Baltimore, Maryland, as part of their “Arirang” World Tour. What started as a casual chat quickly turned into a heartfelt moment when V decided to share something he had never told fans before.

“I’ve never told ARMYs about this, but it’s been like two and a half years? My hearing’s gotten worse,” V said during the livestream.

V’s Right Ear Functions at Only 30 Percent

When Jungkook asked if V had visited a hospital recently and whether his condition had improved, the singer explained that there is a major difference between his two ears. He compared his hearing ability, saying that if one ear can hear at 100 percent, the other only works at about 30 percent.

“Maybe after a month? Like, if I can hear 100 over here, I can only hear about 30 over here,” V added. According to Yonhap News Agency, V specifically mentioned that his right ear is the one with reduced hearing capacity.

The singer confirmed that he is now taking medication regularly and continuing to visit the hospital for treatment. He assured fans that he is actively monitoring his condition and following the treatment plan given to him.

Military Service Made the Hearing Problem Worse

V also opened up about how his hearing issue became more serious during his mandatory military service. He recalled that the people around him at the time focused heavily on physical and mental strength. This led him to believe that he could simply push through the problem using willpower.

“Actually, when it got worse during my military service, everyone there was really into working out, so they’d say things like, ‘It’s all about mental strength.’ I ended up kind of convincing myself that it was a mental-strength issue,” the singer revealed.

Jungkook quickly pushed back against that way of thinking. He told V that ignoring a health problem by trying to tough it out was not the right approach. “That won’t do,” Jungkook said.

V completed his mandatory military service before reuniting with the other BTS members for their group activities. His decision to speak openly about the issue has highlighted the importance of taking persistent health concerns seriously rather than dismissing them.

Jungkook Also Reveals Painful Shin Injury

The live broadcast also gave fans an update on Jungkook’s health. The youngest BTS member shared that he has been dealing with significant pain in his shin while performing on tour. He described the injury as being dangerously close to becoming a stress fracture.

“We are currently continuing to perform, but my shin area is, well, in a state where it is right on the verge of getting a stress fracture,” Jungkook said. He added that there are times during performances when he wants to run and jump but cannot because of the pain.

The singer admitted that the group’s demanding touring schedule has made it difficult for the injury to fully heal. With concerts continuing one after another, he is instead trying to manage the condition while performing.

“I want to recover quickly, but because we have continuous shows, it is impossible for it to heal. So, I will do my best to manage and maintain it well while performing,” Jungkook explained.

Fans have expressed concern and support for the singer online. One fan wrote, “That must be so scary, especially as someone who loves music and makes music himself.
