The long-awaited ‘Friday the 13th’ prequel series ‘Crystal Lake’ finally has a premiere date. Peacock announced that all eight episodes will drop on October 15, 2026. The show comes from A24 and creator Brad Caleb Kane, expanding the horror franchise that started in 1980.

Linda Cardellini (‘Dead to Me’) plays Pamela Voorhees, the grieving mother who becomes one of horror’s most famous killers. The series explores what happened before the original movie, showing how Pamela’s loss pushed her down a dark path.

Pamela Voorhees Returns to Explain the Franchise’s Origins

The series follows single mother Pam Voorhees, who cannot move past her grief after her young, sickly son Jason drowned in the town lake nearly a year earlier. When two strangers show up at her door asking about her past, a disturbing series of events begins. The people of Crystal Lake start asking one question: who is Pam Voorhees really?

Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane explained the show’s focus on Pamela’s psychological breakdown:

“We wanted to see her relationship with Jason and what his death kicks off in her — her trying to find some sort of equilibrium in her life after the thing that she lives for, her son, was taken away from her.”

The series rewinds before the 1980 classic, showing the events that turned Pamela into a killer. Kane assured fans that ‘Crystal Lake’ remains a slasher series at its core.

Trailer and First Images Show a Darker Side of Camp Crystal Lake

Peacock released the first teaser trailer through Entertainment Weekly. The trailer shows Camp Crystal Lake covered in fog, dead bodies, and a creepy camp song. Cardellini’s Pamela delivers the chilling line “mommy’s here”.

The teaser opens with a children’s chorus chanting, “The time has come, so let out a cheer,” before the screen turns red and a shrouded body is wheeled out on a stretcher. Viewers see a younger Pam trying to save Jason from drowning. The trailer builds suspense with people being chased by “something in the woods”.

First-look images show Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees. Kane stated the show exists within the canon of the original franchise:

“For fans of the franchise, I can promise them that they’re going to be seeing a show that was made and crafted by fans… people should expect a ride, incredible performances, and a show that exists within the canon and with the DNA of the original franchise.”

Cast and Crew Behind the ‘Friday the 13th’ Prequel

Alongside Cardellini, the series regulars include William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. Callum Vinson plays young Jason Voorhees. The recurring cast includes Nick Cordileone as Crazy Ralph, Danielle Kotch as Claudette, and Phoenix Parnevik as Barry, all earlier versions of characters from the original film.

Brad Caleb Kane (‘It: Welcome to Derry’, ‘Tokyo Vice’) serves as creator, writer, and showrunner. Michael Lennox directed the first three episodes. Celine Held and Logan George directed episodes four through six. Quyen Tran directed the penultimate and finale episodes.

Executive producers include Kane, Marc Toberoff, original ‘Friday the 13th’ screenwriter Victor Miller, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, Stuart Manashil, Tyson Bidner, Lennox, and Roy Lee. The series is produced by A24.

Each episode runs about an hour long.

‘Crystal Lake’ Premieres on Peacock and Sky This October

‘Crystal Lake’ premieres exclusively on Peacock in the United States on October 15, 2026. All eight episodes drop at once. In the UK and Ireland, the series will be available on Sky and streaming service NOW starting October 2026. This marks the first live-action expansion of the ‘Friday the 13th’ franchise in over a decade.

The release date falls right in the middle of spooky season, which fans have praised. The show had a long journey to the screen, facing development issues and a creative overhaul that saw original showrunner Bryan Fuller replaced by Brad Caleb Kane. The series finally began shooting last summer.

What to Expect from the ‘Friday the 13th’ Prequel Series

The official synopsis describes the show as a prequel following Pam Voorhees, who struggles with grief after her son Jason’s drowning. When strangers arrive asking about her past, events unfold that leave the town questioning who she really is.

Kane described the series as a character piece focused on Pamela’s unraveling. Cardellini, a horror fan herself, was surprised to be approached for the role since it differs from her previous work. She called Pamela “an important piece of the puzzle, but a relatively unknown one”.

The show blends psychological suspense, mystery, and emotional storytelling with the horror legacy fans expect. While this is an origin story, Kane confirmed ‘Crystal Lake’ is still “100 percent” a slasher series.
