Investigators initially believed she was behind a disturbing online harassment campaign targeting her former partner Ian Diaz and his pregnant wife Angela Connell. How Michelle Hadley Got Framed in a Cyber-Revenge Scheme
On June 1, 2026, Ian and Angela Diaz walked into the Anaheim police station in California to report online harassment. They claimed that Michelle Hadley, Ian’s ex-girlfriend, was sending threatening emails from an account named “Lilith is Truth”.
Angela told police she had been receiving disturbing messages that called her a sinner and included lines like “Ian does not love you” and “you have stolen my life”. The couple pointed fingers directly at Hadley.
But the accusations did not stop there. Angela also reported that someone had posted her photos in online advertisements inviting men to rpe her at Ian’s condominium as part of a sxual fantasy. She claimed men had shown up at her home in response to those ads, and one man even tried to attack her in the garage.
Based on these reports, police arrested Michelle Hadley in July 2016. She was charged with stalking and attempted r*pe and remained in jail for nearly three months.
The Investigation That Uncovered the Truth
The case took a dramatic turn when investigators traced the IP address of the online account used to send the emails and post the ads. The digital trail led back to Ian and Angela’s own residence.
Department of Justice special agent Jason Higley played a key role in exposing the truth. He reviewed police body camera footage taken during Michelle’s imprisonment and noticed that Ian sounded nervous and appeared to be guiding Angela on what to tell officers.
When Higley examined backups of Ian’s government-issued laptop, he found Ian’s personal email connected to conversations between the accused account and the men who had answered the Craigslist r*pe fantasy ads. He also found fragments of the emails stored on the laptop.
The evidence confirmed that the emails had come from Ian. Michelle Hadley spent 88 days in jail before investigators traced the IP addresses from the emails back to her former condominium. Authorities connected the emails to Angela and determined that she had sent them from the condo where she lived with Ian.
Convictions and Sentencing
Once the truth came out, Michelle Hadley was fully cleared of every accusation and officially exonerated.
In 2017, Angela Diaz was charged with false imprisonment, kidnapping, and filing false crime reports. She later pleaded guilty to multiple felonies and was sentenced to five years in prison.
Ian Diaz, a former deputy U.S. marshal, was taken into custody in 2021. After two years, he was found guilty of cyberstalking, obstructing a federal investigation, and perjury. He was sentenced to ten years and one month in federal prison.
Michelle Hadley Speaks Out About Her Ordeal
Michelle Hadley has spoken publicly about her experience, describing her time in jail as a nightmare. She recounted the psychological abuse and coercion she endured from Ian Diaz, which culminated in her wrongful arrest in 2016.
“Locked up in a high-security prison with violent gang members and child kidnappers, I knew what my ‘crime’ was.”
Hadley explained the invasion of privacy and harassment she faced, including being tracked and monitored by Diaz through installed cameras and persistent threats. She added:
“I didn’t call the police – I felt nobody would believe me because of his job.”
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Hadley said she no longer sees herself as a victim. “I see myself as a warrior now,” she told the publication.
She also shared what she believes triggered the scheme that ultimately framed her. After the couple split, Hadley hired attorneys to enforce an agreement requiring Ian either to assume the mortgage on the condominium they owned together or sell the property and split the proceeds. When Ian failed to refinance the mortgage and she moved to force the sale, the retaliation began.
“That’s when they started the activity to frame me,” she said.

The Michelle Hadley case has gained fresh attention following the release of the Netflix documentary “A Toxic Love Story,” which is now streaming. The film highlights details of the investigation, including Diaz’s obsession with Disneyland, which led him to purchase a condo specifically to view the daily fireworks show.
