Wonder Man will not return for a second season on Disney+. The streaming service has canceled the Marvel series just months after announcing its renewal.
The show, which stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley, premiered in January 2026 and received a Season 2 pickup in March 2026. Disney has now reversed that decision, making Wonder Man one of the few Marvel series to be formally canceled after previously being renewed.
Emmy Nomination Could Not Save the Show
Abdul-Mateen received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance as Simon Williams. The nomination came earlier in July 2026, just weeks before the cancellation was announced.
The show earned strong reviews from critics, with a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. The premiere week drew 618 million minutes of viewing time, according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings. However, the show fell out of the top 10 original streaming shows after its opening week.

“Everything will shake out. I wanted to say thank you to everybody who WATCHED the show, ENJOYED the show, and SHARED that they enjoyed the show in some way or other. The show worked. And that’s my favorite thing about it,”
The actor also acknowledged the show’s supporters in his post.
“I could see it on the faces of the Youtube Reactors (because I watched along with y’all this time. Shoutout to y’all) and I can see in the messages I get saying how the show reminded some of you not to give up, and I feel it in the genuine love shared when I bump into some of you all during the day,”
“I’m glad we got to be a part of something cool. Thank you for watching… And uhh… See you at the EMMYS.”

Writers Room Never Opened for Season 2
According to Variety’s report, a writers’ room for the second season was never assembled.
Sources told Variety that the show’s writing team has been released to pursue other projects.
This explains why the cancellation came so quickly after the renewal announcement. With no scripts in development and no writers attached, moving forward with production would have required starting from scratch.
