The new K-drama Dream to You dropped its second episode on July 14, and it finally gave viewers the answer they were waiting for. The episode uncovered the painful truth behind why Joo Yi Jae (played by Hyeri) holds so much anger toward Woo Soo Bin (Hwang In Youp) after 15 years apart.

The show, which premiered on July 13 on ENA and Genie TV, tells the story of two high school sweethearts who shared a dream of becoming film directors. Life took them in different directions, and now they meet again as adults. But Yi Jae is not ready to forgive. Episode 2 explains exactly why.

The Dream That Brought Them Together

Dream to You takes viewers back to 2011 through flashbacks in episode 2. The series shows how Yi Jae and Soo Bin first bonded over their love for filmmaking.

Yi Jae was the one who encouraged Soo Bin to follow his passion for movies, even though his father wanted him to become a doctor. She won a short film competition, and Soo Bin suggested they make a film together. Their connection grew stronger as they worked on their shared dream.

Soo Bin’s father did not approve of his son spending time on filmmaking. He saw it as a distraction from a medical career. On the other side, Yi Jae fought with her mother, who tried to throw away her collection of videotapes. Both teenagers protected their dream despite the pressure from their families.

The show also uses the story of the fox and the grapes to explain their relationship. Yi Jae believed in never giving up, unlike the fox that walked away from the grapes it could not reach. That belief gave Soo Bin the courage to chase his own dreams.

The Moment Everything Fell Apart

Episode 2 reveals the heartbreaking reason behind their separation. Soo Bin told Yi Jae he was leaving for America to become a doctor. He dismissed their filmmaking plans and called their shared script “just a passing dream”.

Those words broke Yi Jae. She never imagined he would leave her like that.

But the pain did not stop there. On her way home after hearing the news, Yi Jae got into a serious car accident. She suffered a broken leg and head injuries and fell into a coma. When she finally woke up, she learned that her father had passed away while she was unconscious.

Within a short period, Yi Jae lost the person she loved, the dream they built together, and her father. Her body was also recovering from serious injuries. She had to rebuild her life from nothing and eventually gave up on her filmmaking dream.

This backstory explains why Yi Jae called Soo Bin “my regret” in the first episode. The regret was not about him. It was about her own life that lost its dream.

Soo Bin Returns With a Proposal

In the present day, Soo Bin shows up at the grapevine farm where Yi Jae is working. He brings flowers and tries to reconnect. But Yi Jae keeps her distance.

During a radio interview, Soo Bin publicly announces that he has returned to Korea to direct his second film, titled Gyeongseong Love Song. The shocking part? It is the same script they wrote together as teenagers.

Soo Bin wants to finish the film with Yi Jae. He tells her he wants to return the dream he took from her. He even offers to give back her first love if she wants.

But Yi Jae is not ready to forgive. She rejects his ideas and stays angry. The pain from 15 years ago is still fresh. She cannot simply forget what happened.

A Tense Reunion

One memorable scene in episode 2 shows Yi Jae losing control. She grabs Soo Bin by the collar during the interview. To cover up the moment, she ends up ripping his shirt and stitching it back together. The scene is both awkward and romantic, showing that Yi Jae still has feelings for Soo Bin, but her anger is stronger.

Soo Bin also brings up the fox and grapes story again. He tells Yi Jae that she gave up, unlike the fox. Yi Jae tries to explain that she did her best, but no matter what she did, she could not achieve her childhood dream.

Soo Bin asks if she would try again if a friend offered to help. He reminds her of his promise to let her stand on his shoulders. But Yi Jae insists that a friend took her dream away.
