For years, fans of the HBO show Euphoria have been waiting to see what happens when Nate Jacobs and Cassie Howard finally become husband and wife. That moment arrived on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in the third episode of Season 3, titled “The Ballad of Paladin.” The episode promised a big wedding, but it delivered something much darker. Instead of a happy ending, viewers watched as the celebration turned into a bloody nightmare. The episode ended with a shocking act of violence that left Nate permanently changed and Cassie covered in blood, proving that their problems are far from over.
The Wedding Day That Was Not Perfect
Leading up to the wedding, Cassie was determined to have the best day of her life. According to the show’s story, she started an OnlyFans account just to pay for her dream flowers, which cost fifty thousand dollars. The ceremony was very fancy, with huge flower arrangements, a special dance, and lots of guests. However, beneath the beautiful surface, everything was falling apart. Jacob Elordi’s character, Nate, was hiding in the bathroom and throwing up before the ceremony. He had not come home the night before, and he was clearly very stressed.
During the reception, a man named Naz (played by Jack Topalian) showed up. Naz is a loan shark, which means Nate borrowed money from him and did not pay it back. Naz came to the wedding party and sat down, making it clear he wanted his money. He did not care that it was a wedding day. According to reports, Nate owed hundreds of thousands of dollars, and Naz was there to collect.
I used to be your husband’s friend. I’m gonna make him his worst f**king nightmare.

Cassie tried to keep smiling, but her mask started to slip. Her sister Lexi (Maude Apatow) asked if she was okay, but Cassie insisted everything was fine. She kept saying it was the best day of her life, even though her eyes were full of tears.
The Attack That Changed Everything
After the party ended, Nate and Cassie went home. They thought the hard part was over. But when they walked into their house, Naz and his friends were waiting for them. They had broken in while the couple was at the wedding. This is when the episode took its most violent turn. Naz and his men attacked Nate immediately.
The fight was very brutal. Cassie tried to help, but she got hit in the face and her nose started bleeding. She screamed as she watched her new husband get beaten up on the floor. She shouted that her day was ruined, showing that even in the middle of a life-threatening attack, she was still thinking about her perfect wedding image being destroyed.
The most shocking part came at the end of the fight. Naz took out a pair of pruning shears, which are like sharp scissors for cutting plants. He forced Nate down, and he cut off Nate’s right pinky toe. The scene was very graphic and gory, leaving the audience in shock as the credits rolled.
Behind the Scenes of the Shocking Scene
Actor Jack Topalian, who plays the villain Naz, talked about filming this difficult scene. He explained that the tools used on set were actually very sharp. He had to be extremely careful not to actually hurt Jacob Elordi by accident.
There’s a cutting of a particular body part that my character takes great pleasure in doing. The clippers that they gave me have pretty sharp edges. So I had to be really mindful of that… If I squeezed a little too hard, it would literally cut his toe. But, everything turned out well! There were no mishaps, no accidents.

The production designer, François Audouy, also shared that the fancy wedding set was designed to look fake and perfect on purpose. He wanted it to feel like a “tragedy living inside perfection.” It was meant to show how people on social media try to look perfect, even when their real lives are a mess.

What Else Happened in Episode 3
While the wedding was the main focus, the episode also showed what the other characters are doing. Hunter Schafer’s character, Jules, had a flashback to art school. The episode showed how she started working as a sugar baby for older men to pay her bills. One client, a plastic surgeon named Ellis, became very controlling. In a scary scene, he wrapped Jules in plastic wrap and said he wanted to keep her forever.
Zendaya’s character, Rue, is now working as an arms dealer. She is selling guns for a man named Alamo. During the episode, Rue had to leave the wedding early to go to Laurie’s house. Her job was not to buy drugs, but to secretly poison Laurie’s pet parrot, Paladin. The episode ended with the bird drinking the poisoned water and Rue getting stopped by police outside the house.
The Impact of This Episode
This episode is a major turning point for Season 3. For years, the show built up the relationship between Nate and Cassie. Now that they are finally married, the show made it very clear that this is not a fairy tale. Nate is now physically injured with a missing toe. His financial lies have been exposed, and his wife is terrified. According to the schedule on HBO Max, Euphoria Season 3 will continue with new episodes every Sunday night through May 31. Fans will have to wait to see if Nate and Cassie can survive this, or if their marriage is already over just hours after it began.
