Percy Jackson and the Olympians will return for a second season on Disney+, continuing the journey of Percy Jackson, played by Walker Scobell. Release Date and Filming
Disney announced in February 2024 that Percy Jackson and the Olympians will return for Season 2, confirming that the series is progressing towards its next installment. During D23 2024, Disney confirmed that Season 2 will stream in 2025. However, an exact release date has not been revealed yet. Production for the season is well underway, with filming having started earlier this year in Vancouver. By the time of the D23 Expo, over a week of filming had already been completed.
Plot Overview
Season 2 will follow the storyline of The Sea of Monsters, the second book in Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series. In this season, Percy embarks on a dangerous quest through the Sea of Monsters to rescue Grover (portrayed by Aryan Simhadri), who has been captured while searching for the god Pan. Grover’s captor is a Cyclops, the same one that trapped the hero Odysseus in ancient Greek mythology. The season promises to bring some of the most iconic moments from the book to the screen.
Fans can look forward to seeing memorable scenes such as Grover wearing a wedding dress and the evolving romantic relationship between Percy and Annabeth (played by Leah Sava Jeffries). These key elements from the book will play a significant role in the upcoming season.
New Cast and Characters
Several new characters will join the cast in Season 2. Daniel Diemer has been cast as Tyson, Percy’s Cyclops half-brother, who shares the same father, Poseidon. Tamara Smart will portray Thalia Grace, the daughter of Zeus, while Andra Day has been cast as Athena, the mother of Annabeth.
One of the most significant casting updates involves the character of Zeus, now portrayed by Courtney B. Vance. Vance replaces the late Lance Reddick, who played the character in Season 1. Jon Steinberg, the executive producer, acknowledged the challenge of recasting the role, expressing gratitude for the work Reddick had done in establishing the character.
Supporting Cast
In addition to the new roles, several familiar faces from Season 1 will return. Charlie Bushnell will reprise his role as Luke, and Dior Goodjohn will return as Clarisse. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who plays Hermes, confirmed that his character would appear early in Season 2. Timothy Simons joins the cast as Tantalus, the interim director of Camp Half-Blood, who steps in following Chiron’s mysterious disappearance. The changes at the camp will create new dynamics among the characters.
The Gray Sisters and More
Another exciting addition is the introduction of the Gray Sisters, three women who share one eye and operate a unique taxi service. The trio will be portrayed by Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, and Margaret Cho, bringing a quirky and entertaining new dynamic to the series.
Although there has not been a full trailer released yet, Disney+ has shared a brief teaser to mark the beginning of production, fueling anticipation among fans.
