The new teaser trailer for HBO’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone gives fans a look at the Golden Trio’s everyday life at Hogwarts. The trailer also shows a quick glimpse of Lily and James Potter, Harry’s parents. This is the first time we see them in the upcoming TV series.
The teaser dropped online on September 2, 2026. It focuses on Harry’s time at Hogwarts. Unlike the earlier footage from March 2026, this trailer shows what daily life looks like for first-year students. We get multiple viewpoints about the nerves and excitement young wizards feel when they start their magical education.
First Look at Lily and James Potter
The most talked-about moment happens at the 1:52 mark. A man and a woman are seen lighting up a bridge with golden light. They appear to be a couple. Many believe these are James and Lily Potter.
If this is correct, HBO’s series will show us the Potter family’s life while they were hiding in Godric’s Hollow with their newborn son. The scene might be from the first episode. That episode could end on a sad note when Voldemort attacks their home. The trailer also shows what looks like a flashback of Harry’s parents running across a bridge.
New Golden Trio Takes Center Stage
The teaser introduces the new actors playing the Golden Trio. Dominic McLaughlin plays Harry Potter. Arabella Stanton is Hermione Granger. Alastair Stout plays Ron Weasley. These three young actors were chosen from over 30,000 auditions.
The trailer shows key moments from the first book. We see Harry getting his Hogwarts letter. We watch his first meeting with Hagrid. We follow his first train ride to Hogwarts. The teaser also gives us glimpses of Harry’s first Quidditch match and the Mirror of Erised.
More Time for Friendships
The TV series gives more room to show the friendship between Harry, Ron, and Hermione. The movies had to cut many scenes because of time limits. The show can explore these relationships in greater depth.
The trailer shows the trio sharing laughs in Herbology class. We see them in the dining room together. There is even a pillow fight between Ron and Harry in their room. These small moments were mostly skipped in the films. The series will bring them back.
New Faces and Familiar Settings
The trailer gives us first looks at other important characters. John Lithgow plays Albus Dumbledore. Janet McTeer is Minerva McGonagall. Paapa Essiedu plays Severus Snape. Nick Frost appears as Rubeus Hagrid.
We also see Voldemort in the trailer, but only from behind. HBO has not yet announced who will play the Dark Lord.
The teaser shows many beloved locations. We see the Hogwarts Express arriving at Hogsmeade Station. The Sorting Ceremony takes place in the Great Hall. We also get a look at the redesigned Hogwarts castle.

Release Date and What to Expect
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone will premiere on Christmas Day 2026. The first season will have eight episodes. Each season will cover one book from the series. Season 2 is already in production.
The official description reads: “There is nothing special about Harry Potter – at least that’s what his Aunt Petunia always says. On his 11th birthday, a letter of admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry opens up a hidden world for Harry: one of fun, friendship and magic. The show is written by Francesca Gardiner. Mark Mylod will direct multiple episodes. J.K. Rowling serves as an executive producer. Production has been happening at Leavesden Studios.
