The planned V for Vendetta television series from HBO has run into serious trouble. The network decided to reject the script written by Pete Jackson, sending the project back to the drawing board. This news comes after the series was first announced in November 2025 with big names attached.
According to reports from Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, HBO passed on Jackson’s script for the adaptation. Jackson, a BAFTA-nominated writer known for Somewhere Boy and The Death of Bunny Munro, delivered a period-themed version of the story. The network wanted something different.
An HBO insider reportedly told Sneider that the decision does not mean the project is completely dead. The series could still be redeveloped with another writer in the future. For now, the adaptation is stuck.
Why HBO Rejected the V for Vendetta Script
The main problem came down to creative differences. Jackson wrote a script that was set in the original time period of the graphic novel. HBO was looking for something more modern.
The network wanted to see how a political anarchist character would work in a present-day setting. Jackson’s approach did not match what HBO had in mind. The two visions did not come together.
