The historical fantasy anime Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia continues its weekly run with episode 7 arriving this Saturday. The series, which premiered on July 4, 2026, with a one-hour special featuring the first two episodes, has been gaining attention for its unique setting and storytelling. Episode 6 Recap: What Happened
Episode 6, titled “Gemstones That Can Brew Storms,” aired on August 1, 2026. The episode marked the beginning of a major new arc for the series, introducing Boraqchin, the First Empress of Ögedei, voiced by Kujira.
The episode focused on Toregene, a woman who was given away by the Naimans for marriage to the Mergens as a form of alliance. Despite her difficult circumstances, Toregene managed to build a good life as the wife of Dayir, stepmother to Khulan, and a member of their tribe.
Dayir is the older man Toregene got married to, but he never once laid his hands on her after marriage but always shows her kindness and is considerate of her feelings.
The episode was praised for its pacing, perfectly balancing the ups and downs of Toregene’s life without cutting away in the middle. Tragedy struck when the Mongols, led by Ögedei (who killed Dayir), took everything from her. Toregene was forcibly married to Ögedei and even bore his children.
The episode drew parallels between Toregene and the protagonist Sitara – both were given away but managed to find a found family, only to have it taken away by the Mongols. This shared experience sets the stage for them to team up.
Dayir was voiced by Akira Ishida, known for his roles as Akaza in Demon Slayer and Gaara in Naruto.
The Story So Far
The series follows Sitara, a young slave girl sold to a family of scholars, where she begins her journey of knowledge. After losing her mother and her homeland, her despair transforms into determination.
The story is set against the backdrop of Genghis Khan’s conquest, which is nearing Sitara’s new home. When the Fourth Prince of the Mongol Empire takes her captive, she becomes determined to enact her vengeance.
In episode 4, Sitara began tutoring Sorghaghtani in Euclid’s Elements and learned more about Prince Tolui, the Otchigin. Episode 6 introduced a major new character, Boraqchin, suggesting the story is entering a more complicated phase.
