Netflix’s basketball comedy series Running Point returned for its second season on April 23, 2026. The Mindy Kaling-produced show follows the Gordon family’s messy fight to run the Los Angeles Waves. At the center of all the drama stands Cam Gordon, the oldest brother whose bad choices kick off the whole story. Actor Justin Theroux brings this complicated character to life.

Who Is Cam Gordon in ‘Running Point’?

Cam Gordon starts the series as the president of the LA Waves. He appears smooth, charming, and in control of everything. But underneath that easygoing surface, Cam struggles with serious problems. A drug addiction leads him to a major car accident, which forces him to step away from the team and enter rehab. Before leaving, he names his sister Isla (Kate Hudson) as temporary president, surprising everyone including his other brothers Ness and Sandy.

The character serves as the perfect example of a charismatic person whose personal flaws keep getting in the way. Cam understands basketball, business, and public image better than anyone. This makes him look like the ideal leader. But his partying, reckless decisions, and lack of self-control eventually catch up with him.

Running Point draws loose inspiration from real-life Lakers president Jeanie Buss, making the family power struggles feel authentic and grounded.

Cam’s Darker Turn in Season 2

Season 2 brings Cam back home early from rehab. He claims he does not want to take his old job from Isla. But his actions tell a different story. After returning, Cam secretly steals a large amount of team money to leave rehab early. He then starts making plans to grab back control of the Waves.

Things get worse from there. Cam tries to pressure and manipulate his siblings. He uses blackmail against one of them and works behind Isla’s back to stage a takeover. The character fits the role of the “problematic older sibling” perfectly. He remains lovable in some moments but creates absolute chaos in others.

Kate Hudson spoke highly of working with Theroux. She told Netflix’s Tudom, “Justin is so profoundly funny and he’s so perfect for this part. He just needs to walk into a room and we will break [character].”
